Season 1 Episode 7 – Our heroes have never felt further from home.

What I Liked

1. It’s nice to see the parents do something. 7 episodes in and we’ve seen very little from them. They have a communication device ready to go but are interrupted by the droids threatening to stun. They carry out their threats until the Secretary manages to get the device going.

2. The pirates arrive at At Attin, covered in a toxic cloud. Brutus is in disbelief that there’s an ability to get through it and Jod is almost killed. It looks beautiful though looking at it.

3. The kids show up shortly after, so they did manage to arrive home. The pirates use a tractor beam to pull the ship in. I’m actually more impressed that after all they’ve been through, they managed to return home relatively unscathed.

4. Jod has become a serious antagonist within the show but I’m so damn happy he killed Brutus. The kids manage to use a crane-like thing to grab Brutus as he attempts to board. As he’s trapped, Jod shoots him in the head. Impressive nonetheless.

5. All seems lost as Jod and the rest capture the ship. Fern manages to hatch a last-minute attempt to turn SM-33 against Jod as he throws out a lethal cross and knocks him out. SM manages to pilot the ship and heads directly into the planet. This entire scene is intense but so entertaining.

6. Oh god I was not expecting that. As the crew is admiring the planet after making it through the barrier, Jod makes another entrance. SM-33 gets up in order to protect the children only to be met with a swift lightsaber strike, decapitating him. I don’t know if I hated that or loved it but I’m so happy to finally see the lightsaber being used.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

As Jod is taken to one of the many thousands of vaults, he notices they’re filled with republic credits and appears to look slightly overwhelmed but overjoyed at the same time. The kids are reunited with their parents finally but Jod walks out slowly and ignites his lightsaber before the episode ends. I seriously cannot wait for the next week. What a bridge into the finale.

Standout Character

It has to be Jod, there’s no other character that stood out like he did. When he was providing his speech as the children sat there defenseless was eery. He threatened to slice apart their families and seemed to enjoy the threats. I always presumed Jod would be a character that could be redeemed but this is shifting further and further way. What a character. I’d love to see him survive the end of this and get another season.

Verdict

I’m not gonna lie and say that this isn’t the best episode to date because it is. This entire episode was intense from start to finish, bridging perfectly into the finale where everything points to. I’m left with that Mandalorian season 2 finale feeling where I have no idea how they get out of this but there’s been talks of the Supervisor all the way through so we’ll see. I’m excited. I didn’t think I’d like this show but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.
