Spider-Man Far From Home Review

Beware Spoilers Below

The story packs unpredictable twists with crisp writing. Excellent performance as expected of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. The performance of the supporting cast is suprisingly good especially Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio whose charming and sinister turn ranks on par with Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki as one of the most well written and memorable superhero villains of recent times.

Great moments in the movie (no particular order)

1. Peter wanting to take a vacation and not have to deal with being Spider-Man.

2. Ned is once again the laugh of the movie, He is such an amazing character.

3. EIDITH glasses that Stark left for Peter.

4. The Elemental’s Air, Earth, Water and Fire. The CGI for these were incredible.

5. Mysterio.. his introduction and twists were so perfectly timed it blew me away how good of a character he was.

Far From Home deals with the death of Tony Stark with memorials painted in different countries. People asking who will become the next Iron Man? Right at the start of the movie you’ll get a tear in your eye.

Jake gyllenhaal gave a fantastic performance as Quentin Beck AKA Mysterio as the news calls him.Beck used to work for Stark and had created the hologram machine that Stark was showing off in the Civil War movie. Beck throughout the movie took a dark turn and was the villain of the movie.. but the biggest thing was he wasn’t working alone.. He had a group of people working with or for him.. Who were these people? Well they were people that either got fired and didn’t get credit for Starks inventions or work he showed off throughout his life. We see a flashback of Beck in Civil War, Another person in Iron Man 1 and a women who found out stark was leaving EIDITH to Peter.

Throughout the movie if you paid enough attention you’d notice some easter-eggs or cameo’s. The most notable easter egg came when Peter started crafting his suit, music started playing and it was some music from one of the previous Iron Man moments when Stark built his armor. My personal favorite easter egg was the choice of suits Peter could of crafted… it was no other than a comic accurate Iron-Spider suit, ripped straight from a comic page. Oh how I would of loved to see that suit live action, but I have got to give credit, when leaked photos of the new Spidey suit leaked months back, I instantly loved the red and black suit but was hesitant of what it would look like with CGI added to it, This movie delivered some of the best Spider-Man shots i’ve ever seen. The suit looked incredible.

Let’s talk about the mid credit and post credit scenes shall we? The mid credit scene were seemingly a breaking news story reported by The Daily Bugle and by J.Jonah Jameson who showed a video filmed by Mysterio framing Spider-Man for the London attack. The video of Beck cuts out before he can reveal Spider-Man’s identity but comes back on and Mysterio tells the world that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.

Post credit scene was unexpected to say the least.. Throughout the movie we saw Nick Fury and Maria Hill helping Spider-Man and Mysterio but at the end of the movie its revealed that Fury and Hill are non other than Talos and his wife from Captain Marvel. The real Fury is on board of a Skrull ship with a lot of other Skrulls on board.

Overall Verdict

Far From Home simultaneously delivered humorous, heartfelt and entertaining scenes and dialogue. The action packed sequel explores Peter’s grief and him and the world moving on post-Endgame. You could tell Far From Home closed the doors on phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while opening another door to phase 4. The cameo’s of J.Jonah Jameson played by non other than JK Simmons was an incredibly unexpected mid credits scene. Talos and his wife returning from Captain Marvel was unexpected as well and raises questions like, Will we see them in the future? Why are they back on Earth? What is Fury doing on board of a Skrull ship?
