So, you probably saw the Spider-Man: Miles Morales trailer and got excited for what I think we all thought was a brand new, fully-fledged exclusive to announce the PS5.
Turns out, most of us were wrong. The game is not a direct sequel or a new game. It’s an expansion to the original PS4 Spider-Man game with enhancements made.
Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European Business, Simon Rutter explained the game is an “expansion” and an “enhancement to the previous game”.
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” Rutter said. “There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PS5 technology and features.” – source; Eurogamer.
The more I think about it, it has not yet been 2 years since the first game came out so I can’t say I’m surprised. Just disappointed.
However, either way, I do think this can be great. Considering how poor the DLC was for the PS4 Spider-Man, I think this will be the DLC we all need.
I do believe the expansion will lead into a fully-fledged Miles game going forward, with Peter going off to the Avengers, dying, or actually retiring after training Miles.
The expansions enhancements to the original game will mean the base game will receive the same treatment, and I would be more than happy to play this powerhouse of a game from the beginning again.
