Star Wars: The Bad Batch “Cut and Run” Review

Season 1 Episode 2 “The Bad Batch visit an old contact.”

What I Liked?

1. We get to see The Bad Batch members and Omega head to a planet to see an “old friend” when we get to meet this old friend it’s none other than the Clone who deserted the Republic Army in one of the early seasons of The Clone Wars, who settled down and had a family. He mentioned that Rex had just passed through and never stopped talking about a chip inside the Clones brains.

2. Cut and Hunter head into the town to get some tickets to leave the planet, when they get there, the town is run and controlled by the Clones, they are imprinting “chain codes” onto people and ships as well as impounding the ships. This reminds me of Din Djarin’s sentence about his ship being “pre-Empire”. This is actually great to see because it shows just how quickly the Empire actually took over the galaxy.

3. Echo and Tech come up with a plan to get their ship impounded so they can sneak and get some chain codes, however, they don’t realize that Omega is in the ship with them. You can easily tell that Omega is a defective Clone just like them.

4. I love the fact that, in animation like The Clone Wars, we saw these sides of Clones that we didn’t in the movies, we got to see humans, not just clones, we got to witness them literally grow, die, and fight for the Republic, we got to witness their personalities come out, it’s so different seeing them as the bad guys in this series even though it was expected.

5. The relationship between Hunter and Omega reminds me of Mando and Baby Yoda. The connection they have is deep, in this episode, there was so much development for both Hunter and Omega. Omega choosing her own path, that she wants to be with The Bad Batch, and that she has much to learn, same with Hunter.

What I Dislike?

My only gripe with this episode was that it was 30-minutes long, and while there wasn’t much action, this episode didn’t need it.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment was at the end when The Bad Batch held of the Clones until Cut and his family left the planet. We saw Wrecker taking out 3 Clones with 1 hit, we got to see him help Echo release their ship, Tech covering them, Omega joining them, and Hunter saving Omega and escaping, one thing I did like was when Cut was boarding the ship, a Clone started to tell him he “looks familiar”.

Standout Character

I’ve got to give it to Hunter again, he’s truly protective of Omega, saving her from a creature than the Clones and willingly learning to look after her.

The Verdict

Even though the episode was 30-minutes long, wasn’t that action-packed like the first episode, this episode didn’t need action, it was about learning and overcoming the obstacles of becoming a “deserter” from the Empire. Learning how to look after a kid and to survive without the Empire behind them. Overall a solid episode.
