Season 1 Episode 9 “Tensions rise among the JSA members after Courtney suggests who she wants to recruit next to the team; Barbara invites Jordan and his family over for dinner; Henry Jr. makes a surprising discovery about his father.”
What I Liked
1. The beginning of this episode showed us how Brainwave came to be. Over a decade ago, after leaving his lab he was held at gunpoint and just as the thug was about to pull the trigger, Brainwave accidentally used his mind to kill him.
2. As it turns out Brainwave gave himself his powers as Henry finds out more about his father by watching over old tapes. Brainwave goes on to say he used a trial test on himself and within a week was hearing other peoples thoughts.
3. When discussing Cindy’s father Pat explains how he used to be part of another team before the JSA, which included Oliver Queen and Roy Harper (The green arrow and The red arrow).
4. Still watching over his dads tapes, Henry starts practising his powers and begins moving objects around his room with his mind. On Tape 51, Brainwave explains that when he reads a persons mind he suffers severe headaches, and the only thing he found that relieved this was to kill someone.
5. Henry visits his fathers bedside at the hospital. After hearing the minds of others and many disturbing thoughts, Henry turns to his father and tells him he understands now, people are monsters.
6. Barbara invites Jordan and his family for dinner, and it’s not long after that Courtney figures out that Jordan is Icicle.
7. After realizing Jordan may be Icicle, Courtney runs down to the basement and grabs her cosmic staff, Pat shortly follows to stop her. However, both of them come to a stop when Barbara walks into the room and sees everything.

After reading his mind Henry figures out that he is lying, and this person is only after his dad’s money. With a massive shock thrown in at the end there, Henry kills him and turns around to find his Dad awake.

Favourite Moment
In Brainwaves hospital room, Henry is still by his bedside when someone enters asking Henry to sign papers as they can only keep his father on life support for a certain amount of time. After reading his mind Henry figures out that he is lying, and this person is only after his dad’s money. With a massive shock thrown in at the end there, Henry kills him and turns around to find his Dad awake.
Standout Character
Henry takes the standout character this week. Already practising his powers and clearly advancing quickly. Within one episode he really has shown us viewers what he is capable of, especially after that pretty brutal killing at the end of the episode.
Verdict
Another incredible episode, with unexpected turnouts towards the end. This series is certainly turning into a favourite!
