Stargirl “Summer School: Chapter Thirteen” Review

Season 2 Episode 13 – As Eclipso unleashes the final part of his master plan, Courtney, Pat and the JSA band together to take him down once and for all.

What I Liked

1. I think I put this in every review but it’s just so relevant every single time. Milo Stein is an absolutely brilliant young actor. His scenes against the JSA at the beginning of the episode are outstanding.

2. I love an episode that is action-packed. Especially right from the beginning of the episode. Straight away the episode is filled with entertainment as Eclipso messes with the minds of the JSA and has them fight demons that aren’t really there but can inflict harm upon them. As Eclipso takes his true form we see the team come together which was amazing to see as they’ve been pretty much disbanded the entire season.

3. What an entrance from Mike, surprising us all with an amazing catchphrase “What Up Bitch? as he faces Eclipso in Pat’s suit which we haven’t seen in quite some time! This scene was pretty brilliant as Mike actually does a decent job, and is assisted by The Thunderbolt.

4. This episode is absolutely pulling these entrances out of the fucking bag!! Rick is back, he may be without his hourglass but he brought another secret weapon, Grundy. The entrance was incredible as Grundy and Eclipso go head to head. Unfortunately, the scene ended pretty abruptly unfortunately as we see Eclipso take the life of Grundy.

5. Eclipso has taken Courtney as his new host and the first thing I have to award is Brec Bassinger on her acting throughout this scene. To go from portraying a Hero for two seasons to having to switch it up and play such a dark character she did this absolutely incredibly!

6. Well contrary to what I believed, The Shade is back and cockier than ever might I add. I mean, I thought he died but never mind, good to see him again.

7. I’m genuinely a little bit speechless, I seriously thought that would be it on our returns and then Sportsmaster and Tigress make their return just to help out. After what has been an absolutely incredible Season; the team finally managed to bring an end to Eclipso, not in the way I expected, but nonetheless amazing.

8. I love the fact Starman is going to be sticking around to train Courtney, I mean Pat does amazing but Starman is the only person who can truly show her how to work with the staff. I’m looking forward to seeing this next season.

9. I love how each character had an interesting ending for this season. Cindy wishes to join the team, Cameron discovered some home truths, Shade has chosen to stay in Blue Valley, Dr. Mid-Nite discovers he has a 10-year-old son, and Tigress and Sportsmaster have moved in next door to Courtney’s family, which for me was just the greatest ending.

10. It appears we have been shown our next season’s villain; Mister Bones. While we’re not entirely sure on what this storyline entails, we do know it is linked to Jenny and her brother.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favourite Moment

I believe my exact reaction when Starman FINALLY made his entrance was “Son of a Bitch”. This episode really has just been action-packed and filled with so many incredible returns I haven’t even been able to keep up! I’ve been so looking forward to his return since the Season 1 finale and it was totally worth the wait as he managed to give Courtney the strength to separate herself from Eclipso. What a perfect way to bring him back.

Standout Character

The star of the show is taking Standout for the Season Finale, Stargirl 100% deserves it this week. From the beginning of the episode right the way through to the end she played an absolutely amazing role, in fact not just this episode but throughout the entire season, this has been the case. Between getting the team back together and having to fight Eclipso from taking her as a host, Courtney absolutely nailed it this week.

Verdict

An absolute perfect finale for this season. Every single thing about this episode has impressed me, I couldn’t even keep up as I tried to type up this review. It was one amazing thing after another, I hope next season can be just as amazing as this one has been!
