Supergirl “The Quest for Peace” Review

Season 4 episode 22 “Lex Luthor descends upon Washington, D.C., and summons Lena and Lillian Luthor to the White House; when Supergirl realizes she has one last chance to stop Lex, she turns to the power of the press to help.”

What Was Good?

1. The last finale of the Arrowverse truly stepped up. After an extremely weak Legends review, this was needed to finish the yearly takes on the episodes. Let’s kick things off with the WAR suit from Lex. That suit was stunning, and it’s been a long time coming since we finally got to see it live action. At the start we see the Kasnian army send missiles to the US, with Lex stepping in to destroy them, acting a hero. After which he lands, and Red Daughter tells him how he’s a traitor to the Kasnian people. He locks her up. One line I liked in this scene was how she had internet access, and never once searched his name. If she did, she would have found out a long time ago that he hates Kryptonians.

2. Ben’s Flash moment as Lex’s troops swoop in to take him out, we see him instantly take several of the troops out. A solid little scene that showed the true power of that “cure”.

3. Several fight scenes commence. First off we get Supergirl vs Ben Lockwood. Well, Supergirl, James, and Alex vs the Children of Liberty. James begins to suffer with a bloody nose from the cure, but Ben suffers defeat on this occasion to Kara. Lex then shows up…

4. Lex vs Supergirl. Kara presses the Hope symbol on her chest and activates a similar suit of armour like the one Red Daughter was using. While this is happening, we get Ben vs James & Alex. Some epic moments during both fight scenes. Lex beats Kara briefly. James and Alex beat Ben. As Lex is ready to finish Supergirl off with a Kryptonite blast, Red Daughter escapes the prison (thanks to Braniac who’s back to normal, J’onn, and Dreamer) and rushes to help Kara. As Lex fires the blast, Red Daughter takes the hit saving her. In her dying moments, she disappears while transferring her newly found purple power to Kara. She uses this to defeat Lex.

5. After Lex chooses to die rather than be saved by Kara, as his suit hits the ground he teleports back to his base with Lena waiting by surprise. Lex being Lex gets cocky as Lena pulls a gun on him, obviously this time it didn’t really work as Lena just pumped a couple shots into him forcing him to bleed out.

Queue the Holy Shit Moment…

6. We got a solid ending to the episode. Some couples finally getting together. Dreamer and Brainiac. James’ sister and Alex. They all sat around a table laughing with each other, it was just a nice touch to a solid ending. Especially after how emotional Arrow and Flash was.

What Was Bad?

Kara not telling Lena…again. I honestly wanted to throw my remote at the TV. Kara finally gets the courage to tell Lena (who already knows), then Alex tells her it’s not the right time. Like, come on, it’s dragging on a bit now.

Lex tells Lena everything while he bleeds out, so Lena is already aware but shows up to the night with everyone acting like everything’s normal, but gets angry about it? If my best mate was a superhero in disguise, I wouldn’t be fussed why they didn’t tell me, like, my best mate’s one of the best heroes in the world? It’s just crazy, and it shows Lena in such a selfish light in my opinion.

Holy Shit Moment

The Monitor is here. We predicted this following the finales from the other shows. In this one, he does two things. Firstly he’s speaking to a Martian, Leviathan who looks like he wants to kill J’onn. That was very interesting, as J’onn is meant to be the last Martian alive. Secondly, he goes to Lex who looks cold, and dead. As he pulls out something, the show ends. I think we could all guess he’s going to revive him. A solid ending to the episode, especially with The Monitor. Crisis next season is going to be one of the most epic crossovers in history.

The Verdict

The Quest for Peace delivers a truly outstanding finale to the Arrowverse shows. Lex delivered an incredible performance, and we got an epic ending to what was a slow start to the season. Non-stop action, with some emotional driven scenes to push the show going forward into the next season.
