Supergirl “Tremors” Review

Season 5 Episode 7 “Supergirl finally learns the truth about Lena while tangling with Leviathan; J’onn J’onnz makes a discovery about his brother’s whereabouts.”

What I Liked

1. A first look at our seasons villain, Leviathon. Even a deeper look into the team behind the hunt for the medallion, and behind Rip Roar. It can finally start heating up, because J’onn’s brother ark was beyond disappointing.

2. J’onn thinks Malefik has been sent back to the Phantom Zone. However, through meditation he meets his father who explains that Malefik is still on earth. While I think the ark between these two has been poor, I still believe it has potential.

3. Fortress of Solitude makes another appearance. Always nice to see the place, especially because it almost always contains a bunch of interesting Easter eggs.

4. Lena finally admits to Kara that she’s using her. I’m glad it’s finally out, but read dislike point 2 to understand my complete frustrations with the reasoning behind the turn.

What I Disliked

1. Right, this Kelly and Alex bore fest is getting beyond frustrating now. We have been through this earlier in the season, we’re only 7 episodes in.

2. Although the Lena ark has got me curious. The entire reason behind the turn is absolutely childish, and pathetic. If my friend told me he was, let’s say a speedster for example. I’d be overjoyed, like go get me a pizza please. The reasoning is ridiculous.

3. One after the other. Lena’s dialogue was abysmal. Incredibly poor. The entire scene was awful.

Favourite Moment

J’onn finally had a solid moment. With his brother is was extremely emotional. J’onn risks giving his life for his brothers forgiveness. After Malefik looks in, he realises. Proceeds to then forgive him. I liked this. He made an impact the first couple episodes so this could be good.

Standout Character

J’onn gets it this week for me. The acting was great, and he showed a real sense of purpose going forward. I hope now he’s got his forgiveness, we can see a different side to him.

Verdict

Definitely one of the stronger episodes of the season. A couple of bits that do need addressed by the writers, but overall, I enjoyed the advancement on the main story.

Rating 9/10
