What I Liked

1. Seeing the reaction to Superman’s death was heartbreaking. Sarah and Lana both return and see Superman lying in the street dead. It feels definitive at this point but we know it won’t be. Jordan rushes him straight to the Fortress where even Superman’s Mom is completely unsure.

2. I have to give Jordan props to be fair. He doesn’t sit around doing nothing and attempts to get Superman’s heart back and by doing so he goes after Lex, even slamming him against the wall demanding the heart back. Jordan’s got some balls doing that considering by Lex’s command, Superman’s dead.

3. Lex continues to be threatened but completely unphased by any of it. Lois goes after him next with open threats about how he’ll spend the rest of his life behind bars, Lex knows that Jordan was the one who went to the bar. I really do like this version of Lex. He’s unhinged but in a calm and collective way. That scene shows that.

4. Well, Lois goes to town on Jordan continuing her rage. She tells Jordan straight to his face that he’s not his father, not yet anyway. Jordan looks hurt by this although it’s true. I do like Jordan and I want to see his development speed up considering this is the last season.

5. When you think Lois’ comments to Jordan would sink in, he does the polar opposite. He hears Superman’s heart and despite clear warnings from Jon that it’s most likely a trap, Jordan heads there anyway. I mean, to be fair, I do agree with Jordan here. Yes, the warnings are fair but saving his dad’s life is a priority and I understand that.

6. What an eerie phone call that is. Lois receives a call from Clark but although it’s his voice, she receives a choice to save either Jordan’s life or Jon’s by pressing 1 or 2 on her keypad. That is just sadistic on a whole other level.

7. Jordan gets blasted by 4 huge kryptonite guns and we see him connect with his dad in fighting through it. He gets blasted back into the container then as the 4 men approach, he annihilates all of them and the rage fills in. What an incredible moment.

8. The heart is found but Lex wastes no time throwing it in front of Jordan’s face as he struggles to move. Lex legit stamps on it like a bug. No chill whatsoever there. The brutality and the suspense of the season continue.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

Lois, Jordan, and Jon head to the Fortress to say goodbye to Clark. In doing so, they’re met with a hologram of Clark, similar to his Mom. I discuss in the verdict how his death feels final and this scene impacts that further. You feel the heartbreak during this scene when all that’s left is a body without a heart and a hologram for Clark – it really does feel like the end for Superman.

Standout Character

Damn, another episode that is hard to rank because all of the characters again, stood out, in their own way. As always, I have to give this to a character so the person that stood out the most for me here is Lex. This side of Lex hasn’t been seen before in either Titans or Supergirl, he’s calculated, he’s cunning and he has the patience of a Saint although he’s the furthest thing from it. I wasn’t expecting this Lex to be this good but he’s been great, bravo Michael Cudlitz.

Verdict

It’s another fantastic episode. It feels like we’re back after season 3, it felt like a drag. The suspense in this episode was on a whole other level, to the point that Superman’s death genuinely feels final, and that’s something the writers should be proud of. I know Superman will make his grand return during episode 2, but we feel like that won’t happen, and it’s now falling on the rest. But man, these 2 episodes have been great.
