What I Liked

1. We finally got our first look at Lex. Straight up we know how it goes as he’s in prison. He sits at a table within the cell block with other prisoners standing there and seemingly on guard. He’s then given his release papers and gets out. I am really looking forward to seeing him go up against Superman.

2. I did like the fact Kyle stuck up for Jon after messing up a lunch order for fire service colleagues. Park gets his back up over the missed sandwich and orders Jon to go and rectify it. Kyle stands up and tells him not to, which results in tension among the workers. I liked this.

3. These flashbacks with Lex are intriguing. He doesn’t manage to overturn the guards and they just beat him up. Instead, he focuses his attention on the Warden and has his family hostage in order to give him what he wants. This shows just how brutal Lex truly is and I’m ready for it.

4. The story completely switches off and a huge tornado is heading to Smallville tearing up everything. Superman tries to fly through it and attempts to freeze it and Jordan heads in to help. This was a good moment for the pair as they manage to clear it. A very good scene with surprisingly solid CGI considering it’s The CW.

5. The scenes with Jordan bragging have been boring but when they return home after stopping the tornado was intense. As Clark and Lois drill into Jordan, he finally snaps. This time as Clark tries to grab him he shoves his arm upwards. This creates a further conflict between them. Despite how poor this has been so far, this was actually a good scene for once – it lets go of the teen drama I really don’t care for.

5. We kind of knew when Lex was leaving the prison he was heading to Smallville. He then gets to Kent’s house and demands Lois retires. This entire scene was super intense and it further shows just how terrifying Lex is going to be.

What I Disliked

1. The kid’s arcs are boring. Jordan brags to his friends or Clark asking Kyle to stop giving Jon special treatment (despite Park fully being in the wrong). It’s boring and it’s dumb as well. I want to see action, true emotional drama, and captivating stories – this is the furthest thing from captivating.

2. Another episode we see Bizarro at the very end. This has happened far too many times across the season. We really need to crack on with this as it’s getting annoying.

Standout Character

Lex takes it with flying colors in this episode. He really has made an impact by doing very little and dare I say – this could perhaps be the best version of Lex Luthor we’ve had in live-action. He seems terrifying and intense and it’s going to be one hell of a ride with him as our main villain.

Verdict

A very good episode only let down by the small teen drama sections of the episode. We’ve finally got our introduction into Lex Luthor and he’s probably going to be the best villain The CW has brought in in years.
