Superman & Lois “Loyal Subjekts” Review

Season 1 Episode 9 – Lois, Chrissy and Clark team up to piece together the significance of Smallville to Morgan Edge.

What I Liked

1. It’s actually great to finally see how manipulative Morgan Edge actually is, and how he’s bringing forward the candidates. We’re now seeing the process the “subjects” go through in order to gain Kryptonian powers.

2. Superman really knows how to make an entrance. Not only that, but the entire scene where he takes down the bank robbers was just effortless for him until he’s taken down by a shotgun. It looked as though something affecting him the moment he entered the bank due to the increased breathing noises. Just a great scene overall.

3. The effects from Sam’s Kryptonian bio-weapons are still lingering and have now hit Jordan in a bad way. It was the reason why Superman seemed so weak when he was fighting the bank robbers in Mexico. It’s great how much the showrunners are delving into everything when it comes to Superman’s weaknesses.

4. Clark takes Jordan straight to the Fortress in order to save his life, as the poisoning is almost freezing his lungs. It’s always just an impressive watch to see how quick Clark moves when it’s necessary. I don’t know why but whenever the Fortress of Solitude is on my screen it’s just amazing!

5. This time because of Jordan’s condition, he ultimately had to ditch Sarah and her audition at the talent show – Kyle, her father then steps in with the guitar. A complete 180, but a beautiful part nonetheless.

6. Edge activated two of his “soldiers” to take down Lois considering Superman is still weak. After Sam takes massive cold shoulders from his family, he shows up out of nowhere with Kryptonite grenades and forces Lois and Jon out of the house. What a save!

7. Just when you think it’s about to the right way for Lois, as Kyle is stood there with the other two – it turns out he has powers now as well! Thankfully Clark shows up just in time to make the save!

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favourite Moment

Holy lord. I always wondered how Edge managed to know so much, but he’s actually a Kryptonian, and not only just that – but he called Clark “brother” at the end of the episode. Then it ended. Goddamnit!

Standout Character

I am going to give this week surprisingly to Morgan Edge. That reveal alone at the end of the episode was unpredictable, surprising, and amazing. In the last few episodes, I’ve really come to like Morgan as a villain, and the manipulative side of him is impressive.

Verdict

The absolute best episode of the season so far, I can’t even comprehend just how good that was. In every department, this was literally a masterpiece.
