What I Liked

1. An instant like for Superman and Lois this week in the opening seconds. What I find often with the Arrowverse shows is when a season ends and a new one starts there’s always an immediate time jump. This more often means the show has to take stepbacks in order to explain what happened during that time and it can exhaust. Superman and Lois started exactly where season 1 ended and I appreciate that.

Despite a 3 month time jump happening after (which makes the point invalid in a sense), it still showed us what happened right at the end of season 1.

2. A mysterious aspect happens as the earthquake hits Smallville. Superman goes on the offensive to help as many as he can during the quake. As he hits a mining shaft he stumbles across a girl and boy dressed with the “hope” symbol on the chest that are saving people in the shaft. His headache comes back again so he doesn’t fully get it but visually this entire scene was stunning. Very well done from the VFX team.

3. It looks as though Superman is being cast out by the American military now that General Lane is done. The new general wants Superman’s help and he’s the one that built these new “Supers” and trained them. This is surely going to take a very interesting turn from season 1 and I couldn’t be more excited.

4. Elizabeth continues her exceptional acting. The scene between her and Natalie almost reduced me to tears you could truly feel the emotion running through. Lois explains to Natalie how she’s felt in the last 3 months and wants to form a relationship, a friendship with her. You could feel the happy sadness feeling from Natalie too. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that would be.

5. I absolutely loved the scene where Clark gives the “talk” to the twins. It’s always great to see the full-blown “dad” side to Superman. It was only a short scene but it made me laugh.

6. It looks like the showrunners are in no way slowing down with the show and it’s honestly great to see them looking ahead for such an exceptional show. If you’re wondering who was crawling through at the end, it looks as though we possibly maybe just might be getting none other than Doomsday. I was not expecting Doomsday to be a thing considering he was done in Batman vs Superman but if this is done better then I am all for it.

What I Disliked

There were a lot of tantrums in this episode. Mainly from Lois and Natalie until they come together in the end. It wasn’t needed at all. I don’t mind a tantrum, in fact, I enjoy it, but when there are 3 tantrums and you have Sarah on top being weird and distant, it gets boring really quickly. I am glad Lois and Natalie sorted this out but I hope that’s the end of people whinging.

Favourite Moment

Obviously, the episode wouldn’t go without an epic Superman moment. One of the many things I do thoroughly enjoy about this show. As a submarine is sinking, exploding, Superman shows up but something happens which incapacitated him. He then breaks through it and lifts the submarine from 100’s of feet underwater to safety and looks damn cool doing so. It was a fantastic scene.

Standout Character

It was a difficult one to give this week due to everybody in the episode having an equal role to play but Superman just stood out that little bit more for me this week. The submarine scene was fantastic and the dad talk was brilliant, so based on those 2 alone Superman wins this week’s standout character.

Verdict

Superman & Lois is proving that it’s in no way slowing down. Season 2’s premiere was definitely no different and continues to be the best CW show there is at the moment. If we believe what we believe then we’re in for one hell of a ride this season.
