Season 1 episode 9 “After being captured and taken to a Conclave facility, Swamp Thing is experimented on by Jason Woodrue, who makes an incredible discovery; Abby and Liz track down the secret facility to free Swamp Thing.”
What Was Good?
1. Allow the first good to come when we finally get Daniel back again. The “studio guy” is back whilst Daniel is still in hospital. He shows him visions of Abby and Liz surrounded by armed men. They gun down both Abby, and Liz. The studio guy tells him this is the future that only he can change. A slow, but steady start. Avery and Jason also begin testing Alec as they brought him in.
2. Jason attempts to perform an incision on Alec (looking awfully squishy while doing it) but he wakes up. Jason’s reaction definitely determined that he is enjoying it. Alec begs him not to continue but does anyway, with Alec screaming in agony. At this point, you’re just desperate Alec kills him.
3. One of the things I like about this episode, is the experiment Jason is performing. Learning about how Swamp Thing functions, his organs, and more. It just brings that element of realism into the show.
4. Abby manages to get to Alec, but Jason has definitely torn him apart. His entire chest is wide open, it’s fairly emotional from Abby seeing him like that. He looks ruined.
That is, until, a few seconds where he just completely heals himself.
5. Matt’s driving in the police car, choosing a radio station and completely loses focus on the road. He then slams head on into what looked like a bollard, or a wall. At this point we’re unsure if he’s dead or just severely injured. Matt is one of those characters that I hate, but love at the same time so this scene was just a sweet deal.
What Was Bad?
When Avery brings medical staff to take Maria into holding, her reaction was so underwhelming, and unbelievable. She’s a good actor, but this scene was so bad.
Holy Shit Moment
1. Blue Devil is finally here! What an entrance it was! From the vision earlier on with the guards surrounding Abby, and Liz. He just absolutely destroys all of them, what a moment. What a character. This is so exciting.
2. After Jason tells Alec he isn’t human, and he is purely plant. Alec seems distraught by this finding. Him, and Abby head back to the swamp. Swamp Thing goes into the swamp and walks out with his body in his hands. Just incredible.

The Verdict
A true spectacle of an episode. It hit home in many different ways, especially with our first full glimpse of the Blue Devil. We learn a lot during this weeks episode, and it sets next weeks finale up perfectly.
