Season 2 Episode 4 “Road trip! The Boys head to North Carolina to follow a lead on a mysterious Supe named Liberty. And did you know a person’s choice of candy bars might tell you if they’re a serial killer? Watch and learn the warning signs! This episode could save your life!”
What I Liked?
1. Homelander’s hate towards Stormfront grows bigger by the episode, you can tell he’s about to snap and just wreck everything in his path. He goes to a wooden house, we see Stillwell, but we later find out that it’s a hero named “Doppelganger” who’s pretending to be Stillwell to satisfy Homelander’s fetish.
2. Butcher is planning to leave The Boys to go on a one-man rampage to storm a Vought compound to rescue Becca and run away with her. He manages to hide in her car until she drives for a cigarette with no cameras in sight. They reunite.
3. Homelander thinks he doesn’t need anyone, including The Seven. First, he lets A-Train go from The Seven because he knows about his heart issues, next he ambushes Starlight in the elevator sticking his fingers into her stomach causing her pain, and then completely exposes Maeve on a talk show about being a lesbian. He was ruthless in this episode.
4. Starlight and Hughie talk about the situation they are both in, about how Starlight has a knot in her gut while she walks around The Seven tower incase Homelander is waiting to kill her. This was a different side of Starlight that we’ve seen. She was truly feeling nervous.
5. We finally get to know why MM hates Supes and Vought, he mentions to Valerie that his father used to be a lawyer and he was going after Vought so they hired loads of Lawyers, and then one morning MM couldn’t hear his fathers type-writer anymore and that Vought had him killed. He mentioned it as his father having a disease that he passed down to him.
6. Now for probably the weirdest thing, I’ve seen on TV for a while. Homelander after being ruthless for most of the episode returns to the wooden house to see “Doppelganger” or the fake Stillwell. Homelander goes on a rant and he mentions that he doesn’t need anyone except himself which is when Doppelganger turns into Homelander and offers himself a “blowjob”. Homelander initially likes it but then says Doppelganger is pathetic and snaps his neck.
What I Disliked?
1. Frenchie, he’s in a downward spiral, he’s looking out for Kimiko, taking drugs and drinking, no one has asked if he’s OK. He needs a proper story arc.
2. Becca kind of made me mad this episode, after Vought stopped her from seeing Butcher, Homelander raped her, when Butcher found her and tried to leave with her she wouldn’t leave with him and Ryan her son.
Favorite Moment
Hughie, MM, and Starlight head to meet someone named Valerie. She saw a supe named Liberty kill someone, her brother. This happened in the ’70s so Vought paid her $2000 to keep it quiet. When Hughie mentioned that no one has seen Liberty since 79′, Valerie disagrees and shows her a photo of Liberty in a newspaper, It was Stormfront. This reveal caught me off guard but it did make sense.
Standout character
Homelander absolutely stole the show and Antony Starr is the perfect casting for this role.
The Verdict
The episode lacked in action but what we did get to see just hinted at what is to come in the next few episodes from Homelander and Stormfront clashing to a potential battle between Butcher and Black Noir. The story was fairly decent and the characters were all insanely amazing.
