The Boys “Season Four Finale” Review

Season 4 Episode 8 – Calling all patriots! We will not allow this stolen election to be certified tomorrow! We must stop Bob Singer’s woke anti-Supe agenda! PREPARE FOR WAR! #WhereWeGoOneWeGoVought

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. Homelander finally snaps with Ryan after he finds a photo of Becca, Butcher, and their family dog. He angrily tells Ryan to “come here” but Ryan turns the other way. I’m glad that this has happened because it’s about time Ryan wakes up and sees his dad for who he is.

2. After the entire season hyping up Homelander and threatening to out Victoria, he does it off the whip in a live episode and fully outs her. He even hits her with a zap of the laser. Butcher’s reaction is funny as he’s watching it from his hospital bed. I wasn’t expecting that at all.

3. Homelander provides a list to the Seven to be “removed”. All of these individuals are known to have dirt on them. Deep then kindly points out that Ashley has the dirt of them, Homelander agrees but Ashley hears this. She then injects herself with Compound V and goes Supe. I had a feeling this was coming. Ashley has been a nightmare character since the beginning but she’s not been so bad this season so I’m happy to see her attempt to try and fight back.

4. Hughie figures out that the Annie who is with them is the shapeshifter they’re protecting Singer from. I’m glad this hasn’t dragged on for longer than it needed to.

5. The Annie shifter utterly annihilates the secret service agents there is brutal fashion as always. She even manages to defeat Kimiko one-on-one. As she closes in on Singer, actual Annie escapes the chains and it’s now the shapeshifter vs Annie. An overall fantastic scene. I am a little surprised that Kimiko got dominated there and Annie won convincingly but I’ll take it.

6. Kimiko and Frenchie kiss again. It’s about damn time. It does mean this Colin situation was a complete waste of time but I guess we had to go there to get here. I hope this relationship continues throughout the final season.

7. After Ryan’s scene, you don’t expect this to follow up anywhere else but as Victoria is in the warehouse waiting to be helped, Butcher walks in and we see his powers for the very first time. No hesitation, he straight-up rips Victoria in half. We knew this was coming, I just wish it didn’t take so long to materialize.

8. It looks as though Soldier Boy will be making a return next season as he appears in a small cameo at the end still trapped in the tube. It’s gonna be an exciting final season that’s for sure.

What I Disliked

1. Ryan seemingly kills Grace after realizing that she brought him there to trap him, train him and use as a weapon against Homelander. The Ryan character is starting to get pathetically boring at this point. I’ve never seen someone who changes their mind so frequently. I get that he’s a kid but his character this season has been nothing short of irritating.

2. Sage shows up as Homelander has a self-pity party knowing his plan failed. It turns out though that Sage did plan this all along. I’m not a fan. I like the idea of Homelander screwing up, we’re getting close to the end of the entire show now, it’s time to truly let Homelander fail and let this continue throughout season 5.

3. Ashley changed in the tower. What happened? A-Train, where is he? A-Train was the best part of the entire series only for him to be completely missing in the finale. Poor move.

Favorite Moment

Well, everything goes to complete crap at the end of the episode. The Vice President declares martial law, meaning all heroes have to report to Homelander. The Boys try to split up until they’re all caught. The only one who gets away is Starlight as she flies away. Kimiko screams as Frenchie is mind controlled by Cate so we’ll see where this goes.

Standout Character

I want to give this to Starlight. She was my standout this week. I thought she was great from the moment she escaped, she managed to save Hughie from the shapeshifter, and she was the only one that managed to escape at the end. I am excited to see where her character goes in the final season.

Verdict

I saw many complaints about the finale not feeling like a finale, I fully get it. The season in its entirety has been weak compared to the rest. Don’t get me wrong, the episode was great, I enjoyed it. It just felt like the episode before the finale. There weren’t really any moments in there that captured the action and still yet to see Homelander get in a fight. I wanted more from it but I had a feeling it would be rushed.
