The Boys “The Big Ride” Review

Season 2 Episode 1 “With Butcher still missing, Hughie, Mother’s Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko are now fugitives, and Homelander and Vought are more powerful than ever. But just as the Boys are about to leave the country, they are pulled back into the fray.”

What I Liked?

1. Season 2 kicks off in an amazing but brutal way with Black Noir in Syria hunting down a “supe-terrorist”. Black Noir takes out multiple people then comes face to face with the supe. The supe then causes a massive explosion from inside his body trying to kill Black Noir but fails. Black Noir then walks past a kid holding the supes head.

2. Homelander is at the funeral of Translucent, the supe Hughie killed at the beginning of season 1. Homelander is giving a speech about how he was killed all while putting in motion his plan of joining the military. This scene truly showcases how sadistic and unstable Homelander truly is.

3. The Deep is in a downward spiral, he’s out of control, getting arrested, and heavy drinking. He gets arrested but gets bailed out by this archer type hero who kind of pushes The Deep to join some kind of church or cult.

4. Butcher is missing still while the rest of The Boys has became wanted by everyone, their photos being plastered all over the TV. Hughie is still in contact with Starlight.

5. Starlight follows a hero who meets a random man at a motel, they set up plastic sheets and the man starts chopping the heroes arm off, we see it grow back while Starlight films it from outside the window for later on when she needs to blackmail him.

6. Stormfront’s introduction was fairly decent, she is only really there to get under Homelander. She is live streaming Homelander and Maeve doing a fake military ad. Her character is quite interesting.

7. Now, this scene was brutal. The Boys meet with Butchers CIA contact to mention the “supe-terrorist”, while she explains that this is the missing key in her investigation, she gets a nose bleed, her head then literally explodes covering The Boys in blood and brain.

What I Disliked?

This new archer type character. I just didn’t get a good vibe from him, I think he’s part of a cult.

Favorite Moment

Ashley introduces a new potential member to join The Seven. Homelander meets him with Ashley in the gym, we get to see that he’s a blind, martial artist type hero, Homelander then slaps his head super hard which causes him to lose a lot of blood from his ears. This was absolutely brutal.

Standout Character

Starlight was the standout for me in the season 2 premiere. She truly had the most to lose by sneaking around, meeting Hughie, and stealing the compound-v.

The Verdict

A very bloody and amazing way to start a potentially great season off. I loved every minute of the episode. The episode had its moments of action but the story and characters just took it to a whole new level. I can not wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season.
