We’ve ranked many franchises including the massive MCU. Today, we want to take a look at one of the most popular franchises in the world The Fast and the Furious.
The franchise has spawned 11 films and this list will include the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off since it’s technically a Fast film.
Bear in mind, that this list is our own opinion and doesn’t speak for everyone.
11. Fast X (2023)
Now, do not get me wrong, Fast X does have some good moments but for me personally, they got a few things wrong with the movie. Firstly, I think the villain did not work at all. He could have worked perfectly but the characteristics of the villain and the persona just did not match that “out for revenge son”. Secondly, the Jakob character. When he was introduced he was a badass, he was serious, he didn’t play around, within this movie, albeit he did have a fantastic action scene, he was completely changed with the funny jokes, etc. Let’s not skip over the fact a certain someone returned too.
10. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
Let’s be honest, this movie wasn’t all that great. It should have been what Fast 4 was, but it didn’t add much to the overall story. You could easily skip this movie in a Fast and Furious marathon and not miss much, except for Tyrese appearing in Fast 5. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a terrible movie, but it doesn’t rank high compared to the other films on this list.
9. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
I remember watching Hobbs & Shaw for the first time. I loved it. It was a fun action movie. I literally told people to go into it with a blank mind and not see it as a “Fast and Furious” movie. See it more of an action movie. It worked for me. While the story was decent, the movie did dive into new characters that weren’t truly expanded upon within the main movies. What lets this film down is the villain(s). We have Idris Elba’s character who was superhuman then we had his “boss” whom we did not get a reveal for, only a voice. This movie would have been so much better if it had Hobbs and Shaw chase down Cipher.
8. F9 (2021)
F9 felt like a breath of fresh air into the franchise. Yes, it still had the over-the-top action sequences like jumping from cars, cars in space, rocket cars, and more but for me the main thing was the story. It felt real, it felt like it was the right time for it. We’ve always had the present-day family but with F9 it dived into the past, it showed Dom’s father’s accident, we saw his brother get revealed, and we saw how that whole dynamic ended. It was honestly beautiful.
7. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
Tokyo Drift wasn’t necessarily a bad movie, but the problem is that it didn’t really capture the essence of the Fast & Furious franchise. Although it had racing, it could have existed as a standalone movie without being part of the franchise, as it was a good racing film in its own right. This is an issue because the movie didn’t make much of an impact on the Fast franchise. Lucas Black had a small cameo in Furious 7, and that’s all there was to it. That’s why this movie ranks low on the list – because of its lack of impact.
6. Furious 7 (2015)
The movie is difficult to rank as it can be emotionally challenging to watch. During the cinema, I cried like a baby since it was the last time we would see Paul Walker on the big screen. However, I must admit that the film had flaws and a rather flat story, which is understandable considering Paul Walker passed away during filming, forcing changes to be made. Although I love Jason Statham and his character in the Fast franchise, the Han storyline still feels like a cop-out and poorly executed, even to this day.
5. Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
Honestly, Fast & Furious might be underrated in my opinion. The whole story of Hobbs gathering these career criminals who he knows will get the job done by any means is his best hope of bringing down the counterpart Fast Family. What truly makes this film a laughing stock is simply the ending. The runway for the airport literally goes on for miles and miles, it’s a meme at this point. It’s a movie that basically is the thing where Dom realizes he’s not untouchable, people can get to him and that’s through Letty.
4. The Fate of the Furious (2017)
The Fate of the Furious delivered a twist that I didn’t see coming. Having Dom be forced to become a one-man army for Cipher and have him betray his family because Cipher had his son was such a twist. What would have made this film better would have been seeing Brian’s reaction to Dom turning but unfortunately, life happened. If Brian was in this movie, this movie could have been top 2 without a shadow of a doubt.
3. Fast & Furious (2009)
It’s a shame that it took eight years to get this film. The release of 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift before it was unnecessary. However, despite the long wait, the franchise was finally able to take a breath, especially considering the way the first movie ended. It was satisfying to finally see Brian help Dom at the very end after his promise to him failed. What happens next is truly magnificent.
2. The Fast and the Furious (2001)
The first film in the franchise was what really kicked it off. Released in 2001, it capitalized on the popularity of cars and racing and helped to take it to new heights. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far the franchise has come since then. The movie focused primarily on car racing, with a bit of heisting on the side. Who could have predicted that the franchise would eventually evolve into a series of films about superheroes saving the world, family, and space travel?
1. Fast Five (2011)
When it comes to our favorite films in the Fast and Furious franchise, we believe that Fast Five is the best. Although the first film holds a special place in many people’s hearts, we feel that Fast Five finally brings the story full circle with the reunion of Brian and Dom. Additionally, the heist in this film is one of the best executed in the entire franchise, and it marks the first time that the crew comes together in such a dynamic way. Whenever we watch the Fast and Furious films, we always look forward to watching Fast Five the most. Although some may say that it’s unrealistic, we find it to be incredibly entertaining.
