It’s fair to say that the DC Extended Universe over the last few years has been, let’s say messy. From films being axed to different universes and separate movies based on DC characters such as Joker.
But with the addition of Dwayne The Rock Johnson, it seems like the landscape for DC comic movies is rapidly changing and for most people, it’s for the better.
Firstly, it seems that Walter Hamada is quietly ending his tenure in the coming days as DC is headed into unknown territory. This will be a significant factor for people as Walter is one of the most hated and talked about people at Warner Bros.
As Black Adam is currently headed close to release, there are promotional interviews that Dwayne is doing and he is currently talking about his plans for a future showdown against the Man of Steel and none other than Henry Cavill’s version.
Secondly, it seems that James Gunn will be directing a mystery movie according to The Hollywood Reporter Gunn and producer Peter Safran are in talks with Warner Bros for a mystery movie or possibly more.
Gunn is fully focused on Peacemaker season 2 while Peter Safran is producing Shazam! and its upcoming sequel, as well as Aquaman and that movie’s sequel.
Dwayne Johnson has his own Superman plans as he has been very vocal and open-minded about a Black Adam vs Superman movie down the line.
Matt Reeves is developing a sequel to his The Batman, which grossed $770.8 million worldwide when it was released back in March. Even back in March when the movie was released, a spin-off series focusing on Colin Farrell’s Penguin is already in the works.
However, Reeves is planning more with the filmmaker meeting with writers and directors to build out movies, as well as a series, that will focus on Batman’s Rogue gallery. Both are established and more obscure, with characters ranging from the Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg.
It is very early stages for these characters to receive a money or series.
While Henry Cavill will return for a new Superman movie, this is unclear where this Superman reveal leaves Abrams who is still on track to produce Coates’s movie centered on the last son of Krypton. However, Coates’ Superman movie would be outside the larger DC movies and be similar to Todd Phillips’s Joker movie.
In other news, the supernatural area of DC which features characters such as Constantine and Zatanna was both scrapped at the HBO Max streaming service. They are however being shopped to other streamers.
In Flash news, a script for a sequel to Ezra Miller’s The Flash has already been written. It is unclear whether Ezra Miller is tied to that project or if they will be cast as his ongoing legal battles.
It seems as if when Walter Hamada began to leave Warner Bros, the studio instantly on the turn to becoming a stable universe once again with the studio bringing back Henry Cavill for a Superman sequel or two.
