We’ve already had a small teaser trailer but HBO did bless us with a full-length trailer yesterday which came as quite the surprise.
The Last of Us has been a majorly successful franchise, not just in video games but on the TV front.
The first season of Last of Us felt ripped from the games in parts, making it so special. We’re now fast approaching the second season which will be based on the second game.
There are so many moments to take away from the trailer. There are scenes there that the player of the second game will recognize. Joel teaches Ellie how to play the guitar. Abby is pushed against the wall by a fence of zombies. Dina and Ellie at the music store. There’s so much to take away from that trailer.
However, we are missing one vital component though.
Obvious spoilers here of course but these are based on the game although I don’t think that matters much.
I was expecting the trailer to give even a small tease of Joel’s death. Joel does suffer defeat via a hole-in-one very early on in the game, literally with the prologue.
I suspect they may be leaving this for the shock value when the show comes out but I have to admit, the trailer and the footage we got so far has really piqued my interest. I’ve always been a huge fan of the second game, even more so than the first (unpopular opinion, I know) so I’m naturally more excited for this than I was when the first season came out.
As it currently stands, we don’t have a full release date yet but the trailer confirmed it will be here in 2025 which isn’t too far away.
