Blue Beetle is seemingly first up in the new world of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. A few months back, they revealed a trailer and a new poster for the movie. Well, today they released the official second trailer.
“Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.”
The film stars Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes who ultimately comes into possession of the scarab and bonds with it becoming the Blue Beetle. Becky G will lend her voice as Khaji-Da the voice of the scarab. Rounding out the cast you have Susan Sarandon, Raoul Max Trujillo, George Lopez, and more.
The director for this movie is Angel Manuel Solo with the writer being Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The film is deemed to be one of the first in Gunn’s new DCU with Blue Beetle being one of the new heroes within that universe.
The film has been filmed for Imax and will release in theaters on August 18, 2023.
