TITANS “Jericho” Review

Season 2 Episode 8 “After the murder of Aqualad, Dick, Donna, Dawn and Hank befriend Jericho Wilson, Deathstroke’s son. Realizing that Slade’s devotion to his son might be Deathstroke’s only weakness, Dick is eager to use the information against his nemesis.”

What I Liked?

1. Flashback to 2014, Jericho is asleep while music plays, he’s having a nightmare, he see’s people getting arrested, he see’s people roasting limbs (Dr Pyg easter egg) Jericho is worried he’s trying to use his powers but he can’t because of his throat. Jericho wakes up and heads to meet Dick and the Titans on the beach. Dick looked very sinister in this scene which is understandable giving Garth died.

2. Dick asks Jericho about his father, Jericho explains that after coming home from war, he got a job which took him away all the time, he was coming home less and less until one day people broke into the house looking for Slade. Slade reacts, kills two of the invaders but in the midst of this another invader slices Jericho’s throat.

3. Wintergreen gives Slade some photos of the Titans breaking into Wintergreen’s mansion looking for him to get to Slade, he hands Slade a bunch of photos of the Titans inside and leaving the mansion, he also hands him photos of Jericho being friends with the Titans.

4. We get to finally see Jericho use one of his powers this episode, first it starts off in the record store, the angry customer is being the typical jerk customer so Jericho steps in, puts his conscious inside of the angry man and completely changes his mood and personality, as well as making fun of him. Dick see’s this so he takes Jericho to the tower which we get to see Jericho show off his power once again on Hank.

We come to find out Jericho has gained this power from the experiments Slade went through and there somehow side effects on Slade’s children. Jericho can put his conscious inside anyone and Rose can obviously heal her self.

5. Donna get’s a text from Jillian telling her to come to the museum. The text came from Jillian’s phone but not Jillian herself, it came from Deathstroke who has killed Jillian and her guards (assuming they are also Amazonians.

What I Disliked?

1. Garth died saving Jillian, not Donna. Jillian showed Donna some footage of Deathstrokes shot, his aim was on Jillian but Garth used his speed to take the bullet himself. Now this raises some questions like, Why did Slade get hired to kill Jillian? Why did Slade not go after her after he missed his target and killed someone else?

2. Now this next point was good but for me I disliked it because Dick and Dawn had to tell Jericho about his father and what he truly is, it wasn’t their job to do that, it was jericho’s mothers choice to tell Jericho or not.

Favorite Moments!

1. first and most likely the best moment of the entire episode… witnessing the origin of Slade. We see a flashback and Slade getting an experiment done and a doctor putting some serum into his body which causes his eyes to go white. We see him tied to a chair and asked a few questions until he breaks free, kills the people asking questions, picks up an apple and continues to kill people while eating a apple. How badass do you need to be to kill people while eating a apple?

2. Deathstroke had a couple of good fights this episode, first with Donna in the museum where it’s a back and fourth until Slade brings a knife to a lasso fight. He slices Donna a few times and threatens her to stay away from Jericho. His next fight? Against Robin inside the church. Dick get’s emotional and lacks control so Slade easily dismantles him and knocks him senseless and is about to kill him by putting a sword through Dick until Jericho becomes a hero and steps in front of the sword, seemingly dying to save Dick.

The Verdict

Most likely my favorite episode of the series thus far. Another flashback only episode which was done really well and shot fantastically. We got to see the origins of Slade and we got to see Jericho get his throat scar. Deathstroke once again proves why he’s one of if not they best assassin or mercenary in the DC Universe.
