TITANS “Rose” Review

Season 2 Episode 2 “The Titans pick up another runaway stray. Hank and Dawn have adapted to a new life. Donna and Kory are on a stakeout.”

What Was Good?

1. Jason and Gar are training while Jason is blind folded, they go back and fourth until Jason faces the wrong way and Gar takes the chance to hit him on the head with a training sword this causes Jason to get angry and start a argument with Gar.

Dick walks in and tells Jason that the Titans look up and want to follw him because he is Robin and Dick isn’t anymore. Jason says to Dick if he is Robin then who is Dick? Dick responds by saying “good question”. This is just another dialogue tease for Nightwing… I seriously can not wait to get an official Nightwing reveal.

2. Dick takes in another person who needs help, just like he helped Rachel and gives the girl in need a place to stay for the night and heals her wounds. She refuses to stay because “he” will find her and kill everyone in the building to get to her.

3. We see 3 people are making drugs until the lights and power go out, the garage door opens and it’s Dove who quickly takes down the 3 people who were shooting at her and forces one to ring the police on them selves. This was such a badass Dove moment, we had one in Season 1 and we got another this episode. Dove is such a great character and Minka Kelly portrays her incredibly well.

4. Jason and Gar head to Dicks computer to do a face scan on the girl who Dick helped.. They come to find out her name “Rose Wilson” and Jason can not believe who her father is… none other than Deathstroke.

What Was Bad?

1. Now for me the sole reason this is a bad point is because we didn’t get to see Deathstroke kill the prison guards inside of Dr. Lights prison. It reminded me of the Punisher prison scene where he attacked and killed the prisoners.

2. Hank and Dawn have bought themselves a ranch in Wyoming after the events of Trigon. Hank thinks he and Dawn are retired and wants to start a family and get married, but he wakes up in the middle of the night to see Dawn gone, he finds out she’s been doing the vigilante stuff for a month. Hank just wants to retire and live a good life, he gets forced back into the life.

3. My next bad point is simply because of how long the fight lasted. Kory and Donna are staking out a place looking for Shimmer, she doesn’t show so Kory and Donna decide to go for Tacos until they bump into Shimmer. The fight lasts about 45 seconds maybe less. I hope we get another fight scene between the 3 characters later in the season.

Holy Shit Moment

1. We see a person sitting in a dark cell with a red light, his prison cell door opens and we see that it’s Dr. Light, he gets the energy from the light in the ceiling and brutally burns a barely alive prison guard from the inside out. Soon as he’s free he goes after the old Titans, firstly he blows up Hank and Dawns house and kills the kid they were helping and then he goes after Dick and blows up Dicks car with Dick and Rose barely managing to escape.

2. Rachel and Gar are having a talk in Rachels room when they get interrupted by a police helicopter chasing a black car, the car is being driven by Rose who ends up on the roof of a parking garage. She beats up a hand full of police then jumps from the parking garage roof through a building window to escape.

Easter Egg

Kory and Donna are staking out a place and Donna tells Kory that maybe Roy Harpers leads were wrong about Shimmer. Later on Donna gets a phone call from Roy. I hope we get to see him in Season 3.

Verdict

The episode was slowly paced but the slowness of the episode worked, it made the episode just feel right in terms of pacing. The episode didn’t rush to find out who Rose was. Dr Light I thought was incredible for what we saw, which completely changed my mind from the trailer. What will happen to Kory now someone has taken her? We got official confirmation that Roy Harper exists in this Titans universe.
