TITANS “Trigon” Review

Season 2 Episode 1 – “The season two premiere episode follows directly after the apocalyptic events of last season’s finale. With Rachel’s father, Trigon (guest star SEAMUS DEVER) having successfully turned Dick dark, he sets out to win the others over to his side by embracing their inner darkness. With everyone under Trigon’s control, Rachel and Gar find themselves fighting what seems like a hopeless battle against the powers of Trigon.”

What Was Good?

1. The episode starts off with a recap of season ones events involving Trigon and Dick. Gar appears and helps Rachel run away from Trigon and a possessed Dick. The two are making their way through the house when Trigon starts his tricks. Trigon Wants Rachel’s heart to break one way or another so he can finally take over the world.

2. Jason Todd is alone in Wayne Manor, He’s driving a motorbike inside the hallway and crashes and falls down the stairs when Hank and Dawn appear at the top of the stairs asking for his help. Immediately Hank and Jason start a bromance and Jason tells the pair he can track Dick with the 2nd tracker implanted in him.

3. Trigon see’s the rest of the Titans show up outside of the force field and he let’s them in to possess them. Kory comes inside the house and burns Rachel alive. We see Donna relive the memory of her father dying in a fire in which Donna see’s the man who started it and kills him. Next we see Hank give Dawn some heroin. I’ll leave Jason’s nightmare for the holy shit moment. Trigon manages to possess them all.

4. After the events of the season 2 premiere, there is a news caster interviewing a agent about what’s happened, the agent responds by saying whatever happened was stopped by a new group of masked vigilantes to which we see an over excited Jason jump in front of the news camera and shout “Titans are back bitches” which a grey haired man with 1 eye see’s.

5. Dick goes to Wayne Manor to speak with Bruce, they have somewhat of a heart to heart talk about why Bruce taught Dick the training etc. Bruce tells Dick if he needs anything just ask to which Dick says there is one thing, San Francisco to which Bruce Replies, on one condition. For me this condition could be either 2 things, Take Jason and hopefully teach him correctly or for Dick to become something greater than Robin… Nightwing. We’ll have to wait and see.

What was bad?

1. I will be honest, this might be just me but i felt so sorry for Gar this episode, he was everyone’s punching bag, from Kory punching him to then be seemingly beaten to death by a possessed Hank, Dawn, Donna, Kory, Jason and Dick.

2. This might be another thing for just me but my next bad point is the actor for Bruce Wayne. It’s quite clear that he’s still an active hero in Gotham and the world for the Justice League but the actor look’s to be in his early 50’s.

3. The Titans Tower. By this I mean that it’s got both bad and good points with the good point being that it’s not just a T shaped building but also Bad because it’s in the middle of the city and not there own island like in animated shows. I’m just glad we have some form of tower for them.

Holy Shit Moment

1. Now, Jason Todds nightmare Trigon puts him in. We see Jason inside of another version of Dick’s nightmare from the finale of season 1 with Batman dead underneath some bricks and rubble, Dick and Jason get into a fight with Dick saying to Jason he can only be Robin over Dick’s dead body to which Jason say’s so be it. This leads to a badass fight between the two with Dick seemingly winning until Jason picks up the gun that killed Bruce’s parents, Jason then shoots Dick in the head.

2. Now this bit blew me away, When Trigon was revealed he was in human form, this episode after ripping Rachel’s heart out he becomes full demon, horns and 4 eyes and red skin, which was awesome to see. Now the CGI wasn’t great but it was good enough on a TV budget. He puts the gem into Rachel’s forehead and she uses the full power to destroy him.

3. We see a green snake slither from under some clothes on the floor, it slithers behind rachel and it’s non other than a new animal form for Gar, he transforms back into human form and snaps Rachel out of being possessed by Trigon.

4. Deathstrokes introduction was perfection, We see him looking at the News and seeing the Jason Todd stuff, Slade Wilson then goes back to his mansion, speaks only a few words, looks at some guns then admires his own suit. This scene was a powerful introduction because Slade spoke only a few words and there was soft quiet piano music playing in the background of the shot.

Verdict

Absolutely incredible premiere episode for season 2 from Trigon to the Deathstroke reveal, the new animal form for Gar, the Bruce and Dick talks, the Titans Tower reveals! I was so impressed, bring on the next episode!
