Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Doesn’t Need This Much Help – Unpopular Opinions #17

First off I love that we have a Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic, I love that he has a “team” and I love that he’s even a member of the Avengers but what I don’t like is how he’s treated/used by Disney.

In the movie Civil War I understood why he needed a babysitter so to speak, he was like a 15-year-old kid, hadn’t really done anything major to prove he was fine on his own.

Jumping to Homecoming, while the movie focused on him after Civil War, we still got a lot of guidance/watching over from Tony, who helped him in saving the boat and even left Happy to look after him (although badly done).

Yes this is understandable but you’d think for his second movie, even after proving himself capable of standing on his own in the Endgame battle, we still got Peter being looked after by Nick Fury, Happy, Mj, Ned, etc all helping Peter to a point. Mysterio although manipulating him, helped and guided him in the battle against the Elements.

Although Peter eventually turned the tables on Mysterio, Vulture, and more, he still had a lot of help compared to previous iterations of the character.

In the comics, Spider-Man is mainly a solo character, saving New York City by himself, even as a kid, in the animated show he’d normally be on a solo adventure.

But yet in the biggest universe in history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s got a babysitter, Tony, Mysterio, Happy, etc… and with the latest rumors and news released, it looks like this will continue.

Doctor Strange is set to be involved in Spider-Man’s third movie and the rumor has it that he’ll become similar to Tony, a new mentor to Peter going forward.

With potentially Andre Garfield and Tobey Maguire joining the movie too, these actors will be reprising their roles are Peter/Spider-Man so they’ll most likely be “veteran” Spider-Men which I’ll assume will help and guide Tom’s Spider-Man as he’s still quite young… it’s understandable but Andrew and Tobey’s Spider-Men as well as Doctor Strange all guiding Tom’s Peter is not truly needed as Tom’s version of the character is more than capable of standing on his own two feet.

He’s old enough, smart enough, and tough enough to look after himself, to figure out what needs to be done and to how to do it. Going forward I truly hope Doctor Strange doesn’t become a mentor to Peter, I hope Tom’s Spider-Man becomes a leader on his own, training/mentoring Miles in a future movie.

There is people to blame for this, Disney, the movie directors/writers, etc… Tom’s Spider-Man still has potential and can do it on his own. He doesn’t need mentors, like fair enough team up’s but he doesn’t need to be a follower.
