Shows come and go. It’s understandable that some can’t go on forever, but there are a fair few out there that perhaps ended a little too early, left on a cliffhanger, or had the potential to continue. Today, we’ll drop 10 of the top ones that should’ve had at least another season.
Please note, these are in no particular order.
1. The Acolyte (Star Wars)
This is a show that’s on the fence. Some hate it, some love it. For us, we were undecided on a whole but we did initially look forward to a second season before the show met its fate. The reason why I believe a second season would do well for The Acolyte is because of what it set up. Season 1 had so much story to tell and perhaps didn’t do that in the best way they could have, but I believe this show could’ve been up there with a change of direction. We have to explore another era besides the Skywalker era and this was it, I worry they may not bother anymore now.
2. Swamp Thing (DC)
Swamp Thing was a DC show that premiered on Max and dived into the mystical side of the DC Universe. Focusing on Swamp Thing, the series dived into the origins of the character and had a fantastic budget. The show was a slow-paced episode season which truly delivered some great scenes within the show. Honestly, I think more people loved this show than what it originally seemed like. It’s the one show I truly believe had an unfair cancellation.
3. Batwoman (DC)
To be fair, Batwoman had a horrid time with the exit of Ruby Rose after season 1. Jacivia Leslie had one hell of a task to keep the show alive and in fairness, it took a while but she smashed it in season 3. They introduced the Joker and the season was up there as one of the best in the Arrowverse shows. A season 4 would’ve been able to capitalize on what they managed to do and continue from there. Unfortunately, we’ll never find out what was next for our Caped Crusader.
4. The Book of Boba Fett (Star Wars)
Outshined by Din Djarin. That’s the vibe we got from the show. However, I did like it, it was different and we got some incredible moments from Boba Fett including how he survived after the events in Return of the Jedi. The Book of Boba Fett fell flat largely because it took too long to really kick into things but I think a season 2 would’ve worked well. I would’ve liked to see Boba continue running things in Tattooine but get back to being a bounty hunter as well.
5. The Defenders (Marvel)
The Defenders is an underrated show. People loved the Netflix Marvel shows but seemingly this was disliked the most. I believe this show was actually really good and honestly, would have loved to see it continue, especially having Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist as a fully fledged team. I feel as though this could be a group we see later down the line in the MCU.
6. Halo (Paramount)
Before you pile into the comments, I know the show was bad. I however thought season 3 at least attempted to fall more in line with the games compared to previous seasons. The Reach episode albeit fairly different was still phenomenal. We were leading into other aspects of the games and I feel like if we got another season, we would’ve seen more of these implemented into the show. I think a season 4 should’ve gone ahead and then decided from there above all else. The issue we have nowadays is once a show gets a bad reputation, it’s difficult to overcome it which is what happened here. Halo wasn’t the worst show in the world and if you can separate it from the games, it’s not bad. The show always had a tough time from the start because video games are universally loved.
7. Titans (DC)
Titans was a show that people somewhat hated at the beginning of it but over the course of the show’s lifespan, it seemed to pick up many more fans. It was canceled when DC was going through the turbulence of changing everything behind the scenes. I feel as though the show could have done with at least one more season. The show delivered some great characters and some great villains as well as some fantastic action but felt as though they could have delivered more “bigger” names such as Superman.
8. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)
Here’s another example of a show that was hated but for us here at Only Comic Universe, we couldn’t help but love it. Season 2 could explore more of Kenobi’s life living in exile on Tatooine because we know from lore already that it wasn’t all quiet. The thing is, we understand why people hated the first season and had similar complaints ourselves but we’ll never complain about having more Darth Vader. The fight scenes we got were epic and we truly got to see just how powerful Darth Vader is at times and also how clever he is. There was so much to like about the series from a prequel fan’s standpoint.
9. Moon Knight (Marvel)
I truly wish we could see Moon Knight again in the MCU. The show left off with a major cliffhanger that feels “unanswered”. Oscar Isaac portrayed each character fantastically within the show and honestly, I liked the concept of the character. For me, Moon Knight deserves to have another season on Disney+.
10. Pennyworth (DC)
I feel as though Pennyworth is a show that flew very much under the radar of every DC fan who was around when this show was airing. I enjoyed the show, although I did have reservations initially when it was first announced. Once again, this show left off on a cliffhanger and feels unanswered. I feel as though this show had some life brought back into it in the last few months as I saw many posts about it on TikTok.
Honorable mention – The Penguin (DC)
The reason why we’ve made The Penguin an honorable mention is simply due to the fact that we’re unsure at this point if we’ll be getting a season 2 or not. Likely, we’ll not find out until after The Batman 2 which has just been delayed to 2027 so it’s going to be a while before any further news drops in regards to this.
