When you really look into the last 15 years, we’ve had a lot of comic games. When I refer to “comic” games, I mean things such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and so on.
I will list my top 10 games and rank them as well. Please note, this is my own opinion and the games that I genuinely enjoyed.
10. Injustice 2 (2017)
Although it may seem odd, I personally do not enjoy the combat aspect of the game. However, I absolutely love the customization options and the Multiverse feature. The storyline is also incredibly engaging. Despite my general dislike of fighting games such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, I have spent countless hours playing this game. I particularly enjoyed opening crates in hopes of obtaining the hood gear part for Green Arrow. Overall, even though I am not a fan of the combat, I had a great time playing and exploring the game’s other features.
9. Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)
The game made the list, despite its disastrous launch. No Man’s Sky stands alongside it as one of the worst gaming launches in history. Disney almost had to intervene. However, EA deserves credit for not giving up on the game. They made significant changes that benefited the players, including the addition of a super fun co-op mode. I’ve revisited this mode on many occasions. By the end of its support cycle, the game had vastly improved compared to its initial release.

8. Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
I included this 8th game on my list despite initially disliking it so much that I returned it for a refund. However, after taking a break from it for about 2 years, I gave it another chance and ended up enjoying it. One of the things I particularly loved about it was the direction they took with Jason Todd as the Arkham Knight, which provided a refreshing departure from the typical Joker or Red Hood storylines. I have revisited this game multiple times since then, making it a worthy addition to my list.
7. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2021)
This game on the list may be underrated, but it’s actually quite enjoyable. While Square Enix struggled with Marvel’s Avengers, this game impressed with its great story, fun combat, and impressive battle music. It’s a pity that Square Enix wasn’t able to replicate this success with Avengers, as it would have been a worthy addition to the list.
5. South Park and the Fractured But Whole (2017)
I added this game to my list because it revolves around superheroes and is also based on the popular TV show, South Park. The game is packed with hilarious humor, an exciting combat system, and various unique skillsets. I purchased it when it first came out and even bought it again for the Switch. It’s a game I often revisit because it’s so enjoyable. There are rumors of a third installment, and I hope they keep the superhero theme because they did an excellent job with it.
4. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)
I have a great memory of playing this game. It’s special because I was fortunate enough to secure a PlayStation 5 on its first day of release and I bought this game with it. It was a lot of fun and had new combat abilities and skills which made it even better. The only downside was that it was shorter compared to Spider-Man, which is why it’s ranked fourth on my list. Nonetheless, it’s still one of the best games I’ve played recently.
3. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)
I have a special fondness for Fallen Order as it holds a special place in my heart. This game was released around the same time my son was born, and I remember playing it while he was asleep in his bouncer. It was a refreshing take on Star Wars games, featuring a new character, Cal Kestis, who quickly became a beloved Jedi. The game truly centered around Cal and his journey, making it a standout in the Star Wars universe.
2. Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)
This game is almost perfect, the only drawback being the subpar DLC content. Insomniac Studios took on the challenge of creating a Spider-Man game after years of lackluster adaptations, and they exceeded expectations. The game provides players with various stunning suits, some with unique abilities, enhancing the replayability factor. Additionally, the story is captivating, particularly the Sinister Six subplot and the heartbreaking loss of Aunt May, making it one of the best Spider-Man storylines to date.
1. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023)
I would say that Survivor is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It’s a significant improvement from the first game by Respawn Entertainment. I appreciate the upgraded customization options, like the ability to change stance and customize Cal. The story revolves around The Old Republic for around half of the game, which I’ve been looking forward to for a while. The overall story is excellent, the combat is engaging, and the game is fantastic. I’m excited to see what they have in store for the third game.
