We’ve done a lot of lists on this site but never solely looked at solo films. Some of these on this list could be dubbed as “crossover” films but we’re physically giving our top 10 on films that are dedicated solo.
We understand people may have varying opinions but please remember, this is just our list and of our own opinion. These aren’t in order. Please note yours in the comments below.
10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
When I think of Captain America in a solo movie, I don’t think of The First Avenger, I think of this one. This movie is literally the best film that truly showcases Captain America’s abilities and enhanced talents. The movie truly showcased Cap’s ability to do stealth, overcome hardships, and do what is right. This movie also messed with Cap’s head by bringing Bucky back as The Winter Soldier.
9. Iron Man
To be fair, despite the Hulk and what came before it – it was Iron Man that truly kicked the MCU on. Robert Downey Jr felt like the perfect cast as Tony Stark and this is what led the MCU on this run. For me as well, I felt like the film was more grounded. Touching on the kidnapping to create tech for WMDs to then building a suit to fight back, it was fantastic and one of my all-time favorite films.
8. Thor: Ragnarok
The best Thor movie to date. This movie is a lot of people’s favorite Thor movie and one of the best in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. It literally had everything. Great action, a great story, and great characters, and the director even added just the correct amount of humor (he then ruined it in the next movie).
7. Black Panther
Black Panther was a solid movie. Seeing his live-action debut in Civil War and then going into his solo movie was fantastic. It opened the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a whole new world, culture, people, and more. It expanded on a character that was already written so incredibly well.
6. The Batman
Controversial. I know. I love Robert Pattinson as Batman. I was one of the few who called for this before he was cast as I thought he’d be a unique fit for the role. See, for me the film was perfect. It wasn’t over the top and similar to Iron Man, it felt grounded. I loved the fact the film was so centered around the first year of Bruce Wayne’s venture as Batman. I can’t wait for the second film.
5. Venom
I remember seeing a lot of hate for Venom before and after its release. I remember watching it and thinking this movie is good. It had everything from humor to great action to even better characters. Tom Hardy’s performance as Eddie was insanely good. I remember telling Dan to go see it and go in with an open mind.
4. The Dark Knight Rises
Continuing the controversy, people will likely blast us for this and say The Dark Knight was better but I disagree. I loved this film when it came out and I remember going to the cinema to watch it. It really had that intense atmosphere surrounding the story where Gotham comes to a complete halt. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the Joker but I just think the third film in the trilogy was the best one.
3. Deadpool
Deadpool was a straight-up comedic masterpiece. I still remember seeing the leaked test footage for the movie long before the movie was released or even announced. I didn’t expect anything that the movie delivered. I just know that when watching Deadpool 1, I became such a fanboy of Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds. The movie was great in a lot of areas. From casting to characters to the story, it just worked perfectly.
2. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
This is one of those films that I feel like the reaction was mixed. I adored this film. I felt a bit of everything through it and I thought it was a beautiful send-off for Chadwick Boseman. Shuri absolutely smashed the role of Black Panther and I think Ryan Coogler made the right call in the direction of the movie. They even teased a new T’Challa down the line with his child so the doors are opened there for years of Black Panther material.
1. Spider-Man: No Way Home
Perhaps one of the best solo superhero movies ever, period. Granted, this is one of those films that you can say; “It’s a crossover” but it’s ultimately Tom Holland’s third film. This Spider-Man movie despite being one of the best superhero films of all time, shows that the formula for a perfect Spider-Man movie is to include all 3 of Tobey, Andrew, and Tom. I could watch this film on repeat and not get bored of it.
I Believe captain America winter solider has been done dirty here! i also believe ‘the batman’ should be higher than black panther 2 as i didn’t rate it that highly.
Fantastic piece though, I really enjoy reading pieces like this its Great Content!
Cheers for the feedback mate. The selections aren’t in particular order, we’d struggle trying to rank them 😂
