Top 3 Comic Book Shows of the Year In 2024

In less than a month, Only Comic Universe will rank all of the shows we’ve reviewed or discussed this year based on votes from the public. In those articles, we always give our preferred show of the year. As of right now, it’s a tough one as all of the staff are even towards particular shows.

For example, my show of the year was Fallout. Phil’s show is The Penguin and Rebecca’s is Superman & Lois.

1. Fallout

I’m a huge Fallout fan. Granted, maybe not since the first or second game, but since the third game, I have been. When the Fallout show was officially announced, I was skeptical. How could they capture the unique world of Fallout in a live-action format? I personally was nervous about it but they completely blew me away. I understand that Fallout doesn’t really fall into the realm of “comic book” but for me, it’s still a franchise that we can nerd over so I’ve included it here – plus we did review the show.

Even my wife who’s never played any of the Fallout games and went into the show with only basic knowledge from myself thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember the night the finale came out, I was away on a work trip and she watched it without me. That’s how good of a show Fallout was. It catered not only to the hardcore fans of the games but also to those with no knowledge of the franchise.

Fallout is easily a show that should be discussed when there’s a conversation about what show was the best in 2024. We know season 2 is currently filming and likely to be expected in 2026 but they left the first season open so well that as a fan, it’s hard not to get excited. Amazon did a fantastic job in bringing this show to life and they deserve all the props in the world for that.

2. The Penguin

Here’s another show I honestly didn’t care for. I loved The Batman and I liked this version of Oz but a fully dedicated show towards him? No chance. No way that could work, right? Well, I was wrong, again. I know I’m going to be fully invested in a show when the first episode drags me into the immersion and this show did exactly that.

It’s a weird show where you care for Oz but you know deep down he’s not a hero nor will he ever be. The show’s way of handling that is unique. It’s not like Will Smith in The Suicide Squad, this is different. One of the things I loved about the show was the way it ended. Oz won but poor Victor died at the hands of Oz so all of these potential positive feelings you had towards him were gone by the end.

The show was a spin-off from Robert Pattinson’s Batman film but the series didn’t actually need Batman. That’s how good the show was. It could go 8 episodes without a mere mention of Batman except in the beginning when a news anchor explained the floor but the bat signal turning on was more than enough to give Batman fans their cravings. The Penguin is a show that should be in the conversation again if we’re discussing the best comic book shows of the year.

3. Superman and Lois (Season 4)

Superman and Lois is only the third show we’ve reviewed that had a perfect 10/10 score in a single season with the first one. Unfortunately, season 3 fell flat and season 4 was confirmed to be the last one. There were a lot of rumors about budget cuts and with The CW’s track record in seasons dropping in quality as they go on didn’t bode well.

What they’ve managed to do with this is nothing short of spectacular. There are clearly cast cuts from the previous seasons but I think it’s worked well. The new actor for Jon has made the character feel more relatable and the season itself has been of very high quality.

I’ve told many people to get this show a chance because Tyler Hoechlin absolutely smashes the role as Clark Kent. I still stand by although it’s perhaps unpopular that Tyler is the best live-action Superman we’ve had. Season 4 has shown that on so many levels, the range of this particular Superman is incredible. There is still 1 episode left but what we’ve had so far has been phenomenal.
