Ubisoft Forward’s Assassin’s Creed Showcase Releases News Surrounding Mirage, Netflix, Valhalla, And More

Assassin’s Creed seemed to be all but over, with the next game apparently going to be the final Assassin’s Creed game. This now seems to not be the case as we look to go back to the Ezio-type feel of the Assassin era.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

This is the next major installment after Valhalla. Set in Baghdad in the 9th century. We follow Basim, who was the antagonist in the Valhalla game. This particular Assassin’s Creed game will pay homage to the early games which featured Altaïr and then famously, Ezio.

We have had a cinematic release of the game and it does look amazing. I am worried about us following Basim’s backstory when we all know how that turned out in Valhalla, but I am intrigued by this one, especially since it’s going to actually focus on the Assassin Order instead of beating around the bush.

We’ll go back to the hidden blade, assassinations, stealth tactics, parkour, and more. The game will release at some point in 2023 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: The Last Chapter

Valhalla has been a huge success for Ubisoft. Since the change (Origins) of the games, this is the one I’ve enjoyed the most. I loved the Viking setting with the Asgardian backdrops. The Last Chapter will see the end of the game with the final DLC, which will be completely free for owners of the game.

Director Gareth Glover explains this free quest line will tie up some loose ends in the story of Valhalla and will be released within a few months. What a run the game has had with all of the post-game content.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade

I was a bit surprised by this. Jade (codenamed at present) is an open-world mobile game, set to be optimized for touch screen controls. There isn’t a lot of information on the game at present, but we do know it’s going to be set in China. I feel like this is a shame, many people really wanted a full AAA Assassin’s Creed game set in China.

I am also not entirely sure if the game will do well on mobile. If it’s set to be as expansive as it is, I worry there’s going to be a lot of mobile phones on the market that won’t be able to handle it, not to mention the battery life. We’ll see in due course but I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled over a mobile game.

Netflix series

Ubisoft did announce back in 2020 it was working with Netflix to deliver a live-action series. Little has been said about it since. Executive producer Marc-Alexis Cote did say at the event the series was still in very early development. Jeb Stuart will be the showrunner of the series, who also wrote the script for Valhalla. He also wrote the script for Die Hard.

This is good news that it has been acknowledged again. I feel like this is a series all Assassin’s Creed fans deserve purely because of the disaster of a movie that was released in 2016. I hope the series will do this justice. Assassin’s Creed has many stories, interesting arks, and history that can be explored. It needs to be done right. It needs to follow what we all have seen in the games. I have written an article about this before, you can read it here.

Netflix game

I’ll be honest, we have literally no details for this other than it’s been confirmed. We know Netflix is pushing into the video game market. This will add to their library, but unfortunately, it’s another mobile game so I honestly could not care less. I don’t mean to sound crude, but mobile games are difficult to get into compared to consoles.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Red

The next flagship it seems after Mirage. Finally, Ubisoft will be heading to Japan. I am a little unsure if Assassin’s Creed could truly live up to Ghost of Tsushima but I really hope it absolutely nails it. Japan has a super interesting history and it’s beautiful whenever it can be explored in a gaming format.

As of now, due to how early it is, this is all we know of the game as of now. I anticipate with Mirage being released in 2023, we may have to wait until 2025/2026 to play this going off Ubisoft’s current release cycle.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe

Weirdly, Hexe will be the next flagship AFTER Codename Red. It seems as though Ubisoft is truly thinking ahead when it comes to the direction of the games. This is a brilliant move, especially having a roadmap of releases.

We have barely any details surrounding Hexe except this creepy trailer below. The game will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the birthplace of the franchise and the studio behind Valhalla. I fully expect this to be released in the late 2020s if I’m being honest.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity

The understanding was that Infinity was set to be the final game. It was supposed to be a live-service type game that would end the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This doesn’t seem to be the case. Marc-Alexis Cote explained this isn’t a game per se, but will act as a single point into the franchise. We’re still unsure what that means, but we know Red and Hexe will launch as part of it. I may be quick to assume, but it sounds like Infinity may be a place where you can play all of the Assassin’s Creed games in one place. If so, then that sounds pretty decent.

There we have it. All of the news surrounding the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. I am super glad Ubisoft has put a plan in place when it comes to the franchise, it makes sense. There’s a lot to be excited about in the announcements.
