At the Xbox Games Event, Ubisoft seemingly shocked the world when they released a brand new cinematic trailer for an upcoming game. That game is titled “Star Wars Outlaws”.
They are dubbing it the “first” open-world Star Wars game and will be releasing a gameplay trailer on Monday 12, 2023.
“Experience the first-ever open-world Star Wars™ game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.”
The game is said to be coming in 2024.
Now, from that cinematic trailer, the game looks generic in my opinion. It feels like Ubisoft has said “Let’s take the easy option” and made a story within the Skywalker era of Star Wars which could in fact hurt it’s own game.
What I mean by this is that this new character will be going up against the badest of bad guys within the underworld in Star Wars. This could hurt the story because they have to make it link with the Skywalker era. By this, you need to make the game have a dominant bad guy but not too dominant that he’s overpowered or insanely big.
This would cause Vader and Palpatine to want to stop him because within the Skywalker era and the time when the game is actually set, between Episode 5 and Episode 6, Palpatine, Vader, and The Empire are at it’s height with power.
My other major worry, as well as a ton of other people’s issues, is simply Ubisoft. They do not have the best track record of creating a truly epic game as of the past few years.
