What Ever Happened to the Reported “The Warriors” Remake?

The popular hit movie from 1979 is a classic, to say the least. It had a fantastic cast and the story was very well written in that particular movie.

For as long as I can remember, honestly, it must be around 10 years now – it’s been reported time and time again that The Warriors will be remade. Sometimes these reports tell us it will be remade into a movie and other times a series. The studio and streaming platform often change too from Amazon Prime to Netflix, HBO Max, and others.

The last we heard from a reliable source was Deadline back in 2016, where they claimed the movie was ready to be Directed by Frank Baldwin. However, since then we haven’t heard much.

One positive thing to note is that IMDB does have a specific page for this and has pegged it down as a TV series in pre-production which you can see here.

So, unfortunately as of right now, we don’t have all the answers which I know defeats the purpose of the title in the article, but we do know it’s currently reported as very early production. Where that will go, we don’t know.

I’d love to see this be remade into a TV series, but it has to be done right. The Warriors even now, 42 years on is still talked about and still held close to people’s hearts because it was great. It is great, and it has the potential to be special.

When I first watched the movie I was 15, so this would have been 2008 – I remember saying that a show would be great for this. They come across so great gangs and have amazing fights, so this would need to be properly expanded on, just like the PS2 game did.

One more thing before I wrap this up is the scenery, the setting, the way it is should also remain in place as should the timeframe. I don’t think they should set this up in the modern-day, it should remain in the late ’70s because it captures what The Warriors are all about.

It will be tough to live up to what was, but after 42 years it’s definitely worth a punt to see if it can recapture that amazing vibe the original movie gave.
