What I Liked
1. The story of a young Peter Quill coming back to Earth to destroy it with the powers he got from Ego is already a like for me. This is a true what-if story that I can fully get on board with. The art style of this opening scene was fantastic too.
2. The 1988 “Avengers” consists of Hank Pym (Ant-Man), Dr Bill Foster (Goliath), King T’Chaka (Black Panther), Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier), and Dr Wendy Lawson (Mar-Vell). This is a pretty decent Avengers team if I’m honest.
3. The team tries to take down Quill, but their attacks a futile. Quill easily holds his own against them, until lightning strikes him. Leading to the introduction of Thor. Thor explains that the armies of the 9 realms perished at the hands of Quill.
4. I love how spot-on they made The Winter Soldier, he has no issue going after the kid to kill him for the Russians. While Hank and Mar-Vell are speaking to the kid, Winter Soldier has his gun locked onto Quill’s head.
What I Disliked
I do not like how easily the Winter Soldier was swayed back into the Bucky persona. While The Winter Soldier is still there, Bucky is there too.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment would be Peggy and the army attacking Ego while Black Panther, Thor, and Goliath handle Ego too, while Ego creates an army of his own to help fight the heroes. Ant-Man and Quill get the seedling and use Quill to stop Ego.
Standout Character
Honestly, I’ll give this to Hope. You might think this was a weird choice but if you think about it, she was the one who allowed Quill to explain his reasoning for coming back to Earth, he just wanted to go home. She allowed that and they became step-siblings.
Verdict
Overall, a really interesting story with a solid lineup of heroes that came together to defeat the enemy. I loved this story, it was fun, it was moving, and it was just a decent “What-if” story. The action was great and the fact this episode allowed fans to see Goliath in action was fantastic.
