Over the last couple of weeks, we have ranked each individual phase of the MCU and decided which movie won in terms of box office numbers. Here are the winners for all 4 phases;
- Phase 1 – The Avengers ($1,518,815,515)
- Phase 2 – Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1,402,809,540)
- Phase 3 – Avengers: Endgame ($2,797,501,328)
- Phase 4 – Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1,916,306,995)
Now it’s time to rank which Phase was better in terms of box office numbers. I think it’s clear by just the above list which Phase is number 1 but let’s see how the others are fair in the ranking as well.
To see all of the individual phases and what each film brought in, please click the respective phase. Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4.
4. Phase 1
- 6 movies – $3,813,212,481 total
It’s pretty clear that Phase 1 is the lowest on this list, taking just over $3.8b across 6 movies, with Avengers being number 1 in the phase. This is where the MCU began so generating this amount from pretty much nothing is very impressive indeed.
3. Phase 2
- 6 movies – $5,269,487,547
Generating just over $1.2b compared to Phase 1, it made sense after its success, Phase 2 would thrive and it absolutely did. It featured some top films such as Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron that further increased the popularity of a franchise that was full steam ahead at this point.
2. Phase 4
- 7 movies – $5,648,226,127
Obviously, Phase 4 is still ongoing at present with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever still in theatres, but it generated a little under $400m compared to Phase 2 which puts it second with an extra film in comparison. Unfortunately, for Phase 4, a lot of it was endured during the Covid pandemic so I presume it would have done a lot better had this not been the case.
1. Phase 3
- 11 movies – $13,540,215,441
It’s crazy to think Phase 3 isn’t far off doing what all the other Phases have done combined. This was peak cinema featuring 6 movies that grossed over $1b which is absolutely crazy in its own right. It also had Infinity War and Endgame which increased the amount so much more.
We’ll be looking to rank all of the Star Wars films in the next episode of our Box Office Rankings series.
