Why Cal Kestis Can Break The Barrier From Videogames to Live-Action

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released back in November 2019, and to this day, it still remains as one of the greatest experiences I had the pleasure of playing.

It wasn’t just the lightsaber customization, the gameplay, the saber combat, the story – it was also down to one man, Cameron Monaghan; the actor who played the star character of the game, Cal Kestis.

A Jedi that finds himself on a scrap planet due to the devastating implications of Order 66 by Emperor Palpatine. Kestis’ master was killed by a platoon of Stormtroopers which left a young Cal with nothing but his master’s lightsaber.

Obviously, through the game, Cal re-finds his feet and training alongside a team he stumbles across after being challenged by The Second Sister, part of Darth Vader’s horrific Inquisitor team.

Now, the reason why I say Cal can break that barrier from games to live-action after initially being created solely for the videogame aspect is because of Cameron.

Monaghan is a massive Star Wars fan, and he also did a phenomenal job as the Joker on the Gotham TV show. So, not only did he do so incredibly well as Cal in a videogame, but he’s also had huge roles in live-action as well.

He’s also young enough to be introduced in the same timeline the game is set in, especially considering we’re still receiving shows and movies in that specific timeline.

The timeline I’m referencing is between Episode 3 and Episode 4. 20 or so years pass between those movies so there’s more that happens than the regular Star Wars fan often realizes.

At the end of Fallen Order Cal is unfortunately nearly wiped clean out by Vader, and it seems like Fallen Order isn’t set too far after Order 66.

We released an article which shows what a live-action Cal could look like which you can read here;

You can tell Cameron just suits the role so well, even his lightsaber just looks so damn nice when it’s in live-action form.

Either way, I’d love to see him show up in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series set for Disney+. There are so many other routes that they could introduce Cal, but Kenobi seems like the best option, to be honest.

It would just be amazing to see a character that was created for a game to then be used in a TV show or movie. I’d like Cal to purely stay as a videogame character because that’s where he does shine, but cameos, etc would be great in live-action.
