The Star Wars Jedi series is perhaps the most iconic Star Wars gaming franchise to date. Yes, I even think it’s further on than the OG Battlefront games.
The last Star Wars game we had that was centered around lightsabers was The Force Unleashed franchise. While good, it’s not even on a similar level to the Jedi series.
There is so much to love in these games: the story, the combat, the customization, the exploring, the puzzles, the characters, the worlds, and so much more. They’ve managed to build something unbelievably special with this.
Since the introduction of Cal Kestis, he’s become my all-time favorite Star Wars character as well as the game itself. I’m now on the fence that we should move on from the Empire era but I think Cal deserves a shot in live-action. After all, it’s possible.
The movement, and the character, it’s all modeled and made by Cameron Monaghan who’s a talented live-action actor as seen in shows like Shameless and Gotham. This is why I think Respawn made the right decision truly centering Cal around Cameron because it makes it more than possible in a live-action setting.
There’s been a number of occasions where Cal could’ve slotted in perfectly such as the Kenobi series but I understand as this is Respawn’s character – they want to fulfill his story before giving Disney the character to work with.
It’s been confirmed at this stage that the third game will be the final one so this opens up the question. Will it kill off Cal’s chances of showing up in live-action? It won’t no, but it’ll be a lesser experience knowing his downfall if that were to happen.
We know a fair bit of time passed from the first to the second game. A book did cover this so that could very well be explored in live-action but I can’t see that doing well as to a brand new story.
Cal has come up against some major opponents including Darth Vader himself and lived to tell the tale. It showcases there are still some Jedi out there who can handle their own but are not as overpowered as Starkiller was.
The reason more than anything I don’t want them to kill him off is so Disney can then make a series/movie following the events from that. Cal is slowly becoming a special part of the universe which doesn’t happen very often in video games. I mean, when you consider Battlefront 2 with Iden Verso, hardly anybody cares enough to remember her – with Cal, it’s just different.
I’ve written so many articles; “why Cal Kestis should show up *insert brand new show*” but I think I’ve given up on the idea. I’m not mad about it, I don’t mind it, I do think we might see Cal after the third game but it does all depend on how Respawn wants to progress as it’s likely they always had an end plan for Cal. It also depends if Disney has stepped in and told Respawn they have plans for him. I don’t know what will happen, I do hope it’s the right move though.
