Why Darth Maul Should Be The Villain In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

Right at the end of their license, EA published a brand new Star Wars game that would impress many fans. Obviously, people still complained but overall this game was a step in the right direction. After the poor launches of Battlefront 1 & 2 (despite 2 getting better in time), this was vastly needed.

It featured a surviving Jedi named Cal Kestis (played by Cameron Monaghan) who survived Order 66 as a Padawan and went into hiding. The game is about him reconnecting with the force as Darth Vader’s fierce army, the Inquisitors got wind he was in fact a Jedi and were hunting him down as a result of this.

Obviously, the game has many twists and turns but one thing I enjoyed was the ability to freely travel to a select few planets and take in the environment. The scenery, the different enemy types, characters, and stories we’d see when we embark on our journies.

One planet in particular which features some excellent storytelling is Dathomir. If you’ve played the game and been to this specific planet then you’ll know it’s grim, dark, and eery as pretty much everybody is dead.

One key fact about this planet is that it’s Darth Maul’s home planet.

Unfortunately during the game we never even hear about Maul or get a mention, however, we do know that he’s still alive in the current timeline.

Towards the end of the game, one of the surviving Nightsisters, Merrin actually helps Cal defeat Taron Malicos. She then joins him on his journey to ensure the safety of the force-sensitive children through the Holocron he was hunting down.

This is where it could lead to Maul. Not directly through Cal, although that could be cause for it it could be via Merrin.

Merrin is a newer character to Star Wars so we don’t officially know if there is any history between her and Maul himself. Judging by the way Maul goes on in just about every book, show, or movie, it’s safe to say they probably do.

Maul isn’t one for letting grudges go neither. He still wanted Obi-Wan so many years later after losing the first duel to him in The Phantom Menace.

Fans have been calling for more Darth Maul for a long time now. We get him in Rebels but we need more.

We know we briefly got a hologram of him in the Solo movie, but transitioning him into Fallen Order could prove a huge test for Cal and his crew. Maul is relentless, fierce, and has a seriously strong connection to the force, I’d even go as far as to say this should be how Cal meets his end.

He isn’t around or even mentioned anywhere outside the game (obviously canon prevents that and the game was only created in 2019 as was the character) so the very high likelihood is that he will die at some point.

We know a sequel is being made now to the first game but from then it’s still unclear. It does leave doors open for the game to take a third but I think the third should come after the events of Return of the Jedi or even Rise of Skywalker where a young padawan takes motivation from Cal.

I believe Maul should be the one to end it for Cal. It would add emotion but add a lot more boost for Maul moving forward within the Star Wars universe. After all, the Fallen Order games are canon.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved fighting the Inquisitors in the first game. It added a new aspect for me, and even better getting to fight Vader at the end as well. The Inquisitors can still be a part of the game in their efforts to hunt Cal down after two of them failed the first time. It’s pretty obvious Vader will be pissed about that, also given the fact that Cal escaped.

All in all, I just think it would be incredible to see Cal go up against Maul. By adding Dathomir I definitely think Respawn had the idea originally anyway and then scrapped it but if that is so, then this could be the perfect opportunity because the game did exceptionally well at launch.

What do you think? Should they keep it to the Inquisitors or give Maul a chance in the game? Let me know down in the comments below.
