Let's Talk

Why Disney Need Their Own Version Of DC FanDome

DC FanDome 2020 was a massive hit among fans and gained over 22 million viewers worldwide, which is a feat that would be difficult to beat.

Because of COVID, comic cons just aren’t the huge events they used to be, and it’s unlikely they will be until COVID properly dies down.

This year’s comic con brought next to nothing from Marvel, and it makes sense, they released a lot with their Investor Day last year.

However, with Investor Day it never really felt like their answer to FanDome. To be honest, I had no idea what was happening until trailers started dropping back in December, and that says something from a guy that literally takes days off work to report this so you guys can see it all in one place.

One of the things FanDome did was that it got people excited. Genuinely, the vibes from everyone that night were great. News, trailers, comics, interviews, I mean, that event literally had it all.

With Marvel and Star Wars, there are far more projects in the pipeline than DC, so imagine what they could do with all of that barrelled into one event? It would be crazy.

I think above all, with the absolute dreadful 18 months we’ve all had, an event like this from Disney would be needed.

We pretty much know that Disney has the next 10 years planned, even if only a small portion of that has been leaked to fans. We also know not everything they currently have on the board will ever go anywhere, but they definitely have projects with a greenlight ready to go, so this event would be a perfect stage to showcase those.

I believe if Disney decided to do an event like this, and hype it up, it would send a message. After all, Marvel and Star Wars above all else are proving that they’re not slowing down any time soon.

Give us a proper event. If you said to the average person that you were watching “Disney’s Investor Day”, they’d look at you as if you were sad. It doesn’t sound like an event that is dropping trailers and news, it just sounds like a day that’s dedicated to investors, stocks, profits, etc. It probably was, but to be honest, when it was airing last year I only really cared for the news and trailers.
