It’s no secret that EA had a horrid time with their license from Disney to exclusively make their Star Wars games. EA managed 4 in the time.
- Battlefront 1
- Battlefront 2
- Jedi: Fallen Order
- Sqaudrons
Only one of the four managed to impress their fans, including myself which was Fallen Order. Selling more than 10 million units proving to EA that a little effort into their games goes a long way.
We won’t discuss Squadrons because I’d rather play the Monopoly board game by myself than play that game. It was one of the worst games I’ve played in a long time, it even came out for free on PS Plus and I still felt robbed.
Then we’ve got the two Battlefront games which proved to be huge disappointments among fans. I know Battlefront 2 did redeem itself in many ways but we’ll discuss that later.
Battlefront 1 launched without a story. We know this triggers fans, especially when you’re releasing a game in perhaps the most popular franchise in the world. The gameplay, graphics, sound, etc were all astounding but the game was a major letdown.
Then we have the second iteration which was even more of a letdown. In fact, I’m surprised there weren’t protests outside of EA’s headquarters when the game launched. What EA attempted to do with this game initially was predatory and disgusting. It even got to the point where Disney acknowledged the state of it.
However, I believe in giving credit where credits are due. In this case, EA and DICE stuck with the game to make it a better experience for players. This is where I’m getting to when it comes to the fact Battlefront 3 may have been the best Battlefront game to date.
After the uproar, things changed. Microtransactions were swiftly removed from the game as a starter point. The leveling-up system was still poor but it was much better than it was at launch. They also added various game modes including Coop which was popular among fans. In fact, Coop was the mode I religiously played for quite some time. It definitely was a better experience. It actually shows more, when EA and DICE announced no further updates would happen and support would end, players were upset. More so because they realized the game was now at a state it should have been at launch.
This is where Battlefront 3 would have stepped in but unfortunately, as of now, it doesn’t appear to be happening. EA seems to be focusing their attention elsewhere. I don’t really blame them either.
Battlefront 3 could have brought in all the new features the second iteration had whilst also adding many other features fans would have loved.
Here are some of the things I think they could have put into the game that would have made it a hit among fans
- 32v32 modes
- Battle royale would have worked here as well
- More heroes and villains, plus the heroes vs villains mode could be reworked
- Better customisation
- Better levelling up system
- Remove star cards and use a Call of Duty system to create a class
- Improved galactic assault
- A mode that starts on the ground, take to the skies and finish on the Death Star or Starkiller Base for example
- A more immersive story
- A better offline mode, similar to the OG Battlefronts
That’s just 10. The problem I find with EA is the vast majority of the time they don’t listen to the fans who spend 100’s of hours into their games. They take a backseat and do what they think is right which most of the time it’s so out of touch with their players.
Thankfully, I think EA did listen to fans as Battlefront 2 made vast improvements to the overall game in its lifespan. It did have a good redemption story hence why it has a solid fanbase. Kind of similar to No Mans Sky.
It’s sad to hear that Battlefront 3 doesn’t seem to be happening because I would have liked to see EA really go for it with the 3 installments but again, I can see why they’re focusing their attentions elsewhere.
Whilst Battlefront 2 did save its game, I don’t think it saved the franchise entirely, Battlefront 3 would have done that.
What do you think? Let me know down in the comments below what you think Battlefront 3 could have done that would have made it a memorable experience for you.
