I think at this point, we have all heard the news, right? Hayden Christensen has officially been confirmed to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker but will be returning as the most famous villain in the world, Darth Vader in the upcoming Obi-Wan series set for release on Disney+.
I’ve written numerous articles in regards to this, prior to the casting as to why I believe a lot of hate directed to Hayden is wrong. I don’t believe there’s another actor out there that could have portrayed Anakin the way Hayden did, period. I’ll always stand by my thoughts on that.
What seemingly has changed is the general reaction to the news. It’s hugely positive. People are actually genuinely excited for Hayden’s return now, and honestly, I’m beyond happy with it.
One thing that has bothered me a lot since, is that the Prequels barely get a mention or even a look in. They haven’t really for quite sometime now. The Mandalorian seems to have touched on it a lot more thankfully.
I understand that due to hate, they kind of want to forget about it but in my opinion, they weren’t nearly as bad as some people make them out to be. So, this news brings me joy.
Once Ewan McGregor found out about the news he gave his reaction to it;
“The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden.” Adding that the two will have “another swing at each other” in the series directly.
Hayden also spoke out about the casting to StarWars.com.
“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker. Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them. It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
The prequels is theirs, they starred and did so favourably in my eyes. Anakin was never really given the chance to properly shine as Vader. We even only got glimpses of the dark side Anakin before his ‘death’, so I’m grateful that Disney has decided to bring him back…as Vader.
Maybe this could finally lead to that Vader movie or series we are all waiting for? I hope so. I’d love nothing more than Hayden to become Vader going forward, and not just a cameo state.
Never the less, as a 90’s kid. I’m just finally glad this has happened, and it’s truly deserved.
