The Blade game was announced at the Game Awards 2023, with the backing of Bethesda and Arkane Lyon bringing the good stuff. If you’re unfamiliar with the studios involved, they made Deathloop and Dishonored.
While I am over the moon Blade is getting some love with a game, the trailer didn’t do a lot for me. I know that it’s premature to judge a game based on a trailer of less than 2 minutes but I just want to give my first impressions. It’s a day 1 buy for me regardless as I own both an Xbox and PS5.
I want to start by discussing the graphics. I understand this is the type the studio goes for but they looked bad considering the standards of graphics in a game these days. It looked like it belonged on a PS3. The hair physics looked worse than UFC 5 and that’s pretty difficult to do.
It’s even worse as well considering this is a cinematic trailer and not a gameplay trailer. I just hope this is just me being petty way too early and it gets a drastic update.
Next up is no indication of which console this game will be released to. Understandably, Bethesda is Microsoft so it’s pretty safe to presume the game will be an Xbox exclusive but would Marvel allow that?
Spider-Man is Sony-owned before anyone comments.
Either way, it would be nice to let fans know if this is to be an exclusive or not. It doesn’t bother me personally as I already mentioned I own both consoles but it would be nice to let fans know.
Although this article has actively focused on the negatives, I can’t wait to play it. Despite the graphics and the lack of updates, I think this has the potential to be a very fun action-packed game.
I can’t see it as being as in-depth as the Starfield or Fallout universes but I can see it being an entertaining linear action game. Ultimately, that’s where a Blade game would thrive the most.
That’s why my feelings are mixed. I’m excited about it but I’m also nervous. I’ll hold out any further judgments until a new trailer is released.
Marvel’s Blade is a mature, single-player, third-person game set in the heart of Paris, now in development by Arkane Lyon.
