Despite the first movie actually being a very good film, it’s still plagued by the awful original design. Although the studio went back and fixed it, it really did hurt the movie as a whole.
Thankfully though, it wasn’t enough to deter Paramount from confirming a sequel. I really did enjoy the trailer for the second film. It showcased two fan favorites in Tails and Knuckles. If you haven’t seen the film or the trailer then you can watch it here;
See, for me, I didn’t go into the movie expecting all seriousness with it. I knew it was going to be fun, hilarious, action-packed, and more. It featured everything I wanted from the sequel.
Despite the original games being very successful, games in recent years haven’t been able to capture what the first games brought which in turn, has made the Sonic franchise suffer as a result.
The movies do an amazing job of bringing everything to life. Yeah, we’re also getting a little tired of every single animation going into live-action and it doesn’t always work. Sonic is one of those that genuinely does work.
One of the many things I love about the film is the belly laughs throughout. The references from Sonic are golden and are on queue pretty much every time. Even Jim Carrey’s Robotnik is tremendously funny which is a given considering who it is. I honestly just laugh through it, the movie itself is enough to take most of us from a bad mood into a good one.
After the huge design failure of the original Sonic, the team has done well going forward. Tails and Knuckles were fantastic, even the voice actors for both did very well so they were cast well when it came down to it.
My only disappointment is not seeing James Marsden a little more but his story within the movie was great with the whole wedding and that not going to plan.
All-in-all, the movie is just great fun. Sometimes that’s all we need. I am super excited about what the third movie brings. I won’t spoil anything but the end tease is something I never expected. I’ve never been a major Sonic fan, I’ve enjoyed the past games and whatnot, but the movies made me a bigger fan. It’s one of those services where I feel like game-to-live-action has worked well, and we all know it’s a risky move when a studio takes one of those on.
