Why I’d Love A Third Star Wars Battlefront Game

It’s been over 7 years since we last got an iteration of the Star Wars shooter series. Honestly, I think it’s been long enough now to consider a third.

When it comes to shooters, we’re not exactly blessed with choices these days. Fortnite, Call of Duty, Marvel Rivals, and maybe a couple of others seem to be all we have right now. Battlefield is around the corner, which is great, but I really want something different now.

That’s where the Battlefront series comes into play. Understandably, Battlefront 2 had a rough launch. It received heavy backlash due to its overbearings on microtransactions which halted natural progression through the game.

DICE though deserves a lot of props for the turnaround. Microtransactions were effectively booted out of the game and from that point, the game focused on adding good quality-of-life updates, new modes, new heroes and so much more.

By the end, DICE had produced a beautiful game that I often go back to. I’ve felt very little need in recent years to do so because support and updates have since been stopped. I had upgraded everything I needed to and wouldn’t feel any further form of progression. The memories stick though and I had some wonderful times with my friends online.

If DICE can continue what they managed to do post-launch with Battlefront 2 from the beginning, I could only imagine what Battlefront 3 would look like. The franchise has an overwhelming amount of potential and this was seen in the second game with a fully added story mode.

They could add more heroes, further enhance the co-op mode, add new planets, new match types and so much more. It’ll add something unique to the online multiplayer shooter pool. Quite frankly, I think I’m just tired of the same old with Call of Duty and Fortnite at this point. Especially Call of Duty, Black Ops 6 is one of the worst multiplayer shooter experiences I’ve ever had.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan and I love video games so these 2 always go hand in hand. I played a lot of Battlefront 1 considering the game didn’t have a huge amount of content, I had a lot of fun with it. The second game had so much more to like and a third could go beyond that.

Adding a mode where the battle starts on the ground, takes to the skies and you fight somewhere else would be such an immersive mode. A similar mode to Call of Duty: WW2’s War mode where it’s purely objective-based and has 3 rounds, offensive and defensive would be fantastic.

Here are 10 things I’d love to see in the game if it were ever to happen. I wrote this 3 years ago in an article about a potential wishlist;

  1. 32v32 modes
  2. Battle royale would have worked here as well
  3. More heroes and villains, plus the heroes vs villains mode could be reworked
  4. Better customization
  5. Better leveling up system
  6. Remove star cards and use a Call of Duty system to create a class
  7. Improved galactic assault
  8. A mode that starts on the ground, takes to the skies and finish on the Death Star or Starkiller Base for example
  9. A more immersive story
  10. A better offline mode, similar to the OG Battlefronts

I’m of course hoping at this stage we’ll get this. I know DICE is putting all of their attention into the upcoming Battlefield 2025 game which is great because it does look good but I’m hoping after that, Battlefront 3 becomes the next focus.

What do you think? Would you like to see a trilogy for the remade series? Let me know in the comments below.
