First off, I’ll mention that I am a huge John Cena fan as well as a big James Gunn fan because of what he has done with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and what he has done with the Suicide Squad characters from the trailers as well as other various bits of promotional material.
Secondly, I see tweets and comments about the Peacemaker series in general, such tweets as “we didn’t ask for this” “no one wants this” “I’ll not be watching it”, among other tweets and comments, that’s completely fair, no one pretty much asked for this series, I didn’t but I’ll still be watching and supporting everything about this show.
James Gunn
One of the major reasons as to why I’ll be watching and supporting the series is James Gunn, people might hate or dislike James based on real-life issues and once again, that’s fair, but you can not knock his work talent, his storytelling mind, and his great casting abilities.
Let’s take Guardians of the Galaxy, he directed/wrote those two movies, the first movie was absolutely amazing, the second one was a fan-favorite, his casting abilities are superb in casting the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, among others.
The story in those movies is amazing, from the trailers of the Suicide Squad I can see he has brought the same mentality from those movies to The Suicide Squad and the upcoming Peacemaker series. I can see that he cares for Peacemaker among the other characters so that’s a plus.
John Cena
John Cena is another wrestler-turned-actor, over the years Cena has starred in some, let’s say below average films, but seeing his actor range and ability over the years, I can tell that he has grown as an actor and is only just coming into his prime for acting.
By the trailers, John Cena has grown to love, cherish, and respect the character of Peacemaker, turning it from a nobody in the comics to giving him a voice and a moment to shine, in the trailers, Cena has been one of the standout characters, coming in the trailers with some witty banter.
The Peacemaker character
The Peacemaker character, like I mentioned, was a nobody who even I haven’t heard of, his design is basic, but he’s rumored to be a brutal character. The series is going to be bloody, funny, and action-packed so what more could you ask for?
I can see DC and Warner Bros making plans for the character of Peacemaker, having him debut in The Suicide Squad, already filmed a TV series, and recently reintroduced him into the DC Comics. The suit he wears is literally ripped straight from the comic panels.
The upcoming HBO Max series is a spin-off from the film The Suicide Squad and is the first television series set in the DC Extended Universe. The series is produced by DC Films, The Safran Company, Troll Court Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Television.
The series will consist of 8 episodes and James Gunn will be writing all of the episodes, with him directing several of those episodes and also serving as showrunner. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2022. The series will explore the origins of Peacemaker.
The series will star John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji. The series began filming in January 2021 and is scheduled to conclude filming in July.
