It’s no secret that Marvel has had its fair share of ups and downs since Avengers: Endgame. It does feel as though we’ve had more lows than highs, but I never expected Disney to throw the towel in, considering the money pit that is comic book content today.
Thunderbolts* is the second MCU film on the upcoming roadmap, releasing May 2nd, 2025 just behind Captain America: Brave New World.
Now, I’m so excited about this simply because of the lineup. This does feel like Marvel’s answer to DC’s Suicide Squad, and that’s okay.
So far we know the lineup consists of;
- Bucky
- Red Guardian
- Yelena
- Ghost
- John Walker
- Taskmaster
- Sentry
It’s a dysfunctional team, for sure, but I feel like that is what will make this Marvel project unique compared to the rest. Now, look at some of the lineups and see where they’ve ended up.
Yelena is trying to honor Natasha’s legacy. John was never really a bad guy, neither was Ghost. Bucky has been through his redemption. Taskmaster was controlled.
There is also scope for somebody else to be involved. There is a specific spot in both trailers where there’s a gap and it’s natural now we’ll have trust issues considering the lizard shot in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailers. I’m willing to put my money on that being Baron Zemo, I’d love to see him again if I’m being honest.
It’s going to be intriguing to see how they come full circle and fight as a team for seemingly a corrupt government. The trailers and the footage we’ve seen thus far look good and that’s a solid start.
There’s a lot of directions they can go with this movie and I feel like every member there deserves to be there. I do believe Bucky may have been better suited to Captain America: Brave New World considering the events that took place during Falcon & The Winter Soldier but I’m just happy we’re getting more Bucky.
It feels like Marvel has listened to fans after the backlash they’ve received in recent years and so far the trailers for Cap and this have been superb and that’s all we as fans can ask for.
2025 looks as though it’s going to be a great year for Marvel and they do need it. Daredevil is also set to return next year which is exciting.
