Why No DLC For Spider-Man 2 Is Concerning

I’m not here to disrespect Insomniac because they’ve been a delight the last few years. After many failed attempts at Spider-Man games, Insomniac did something special with the franchise, which deserves trust.

However, we’ve been informed that there are no plans for DLC content despite the fact the game was released exactly a year ago today. I feel deflated more than anything because why haven’t fans been told about this considering they teased more than enough DLC within the game?

I don’t recall any DLC being confirmed but it’s no less disappointing anyway when the majority of fans, including myself, were hopeful for it considering the first game got 3 separate DLCs. I feel like there was so much more to give for DLC in the second game.

Now, I know the roadmap was leaked. No details around DLC were on that roadmap (correct me if I’m wrong) and understandably this had a significant impact on Insomniac. It feels as though whenever news drops surrounding Insomniac at the moment, it’s not good news, unfortunately.

There were the layoffs that happened earlier this year which did include other exclusive Sony studios including Naughty Dog which is a shame. We’ve had some great success with Sony exclusives that have made so much money including The Last of Us, Spider-Man, God of War, and more. It’s no secret that these exclusive games also drive console sales so are we to be concerned?

I am. There was so much in that leaked roadmap which was good stuff including games such as;

  1. Venom
  2. Wolverine (already confirmed)
  3. X-Men
  4. Spider-Man 3

Where I try to lay my concerns to rest is maybe the fact Insomniac have a lot on their plate. 4 games listed above all by 2030 which is a little over 5 years away. Maybe they need to pump their remaining resources into those games and if so then fine, no complaints here but unless there’s an insider, we’ll never know.

I just find it a bit disheartening when fans haven’t been informed. It took them a while before they even added New Game+ in. These are things that all happened with the first game and a lot quicker too. I’m not mad that no DLC is coming (despite being a little upset), I’m frustrated at the radio silence from Sony/Insomniac.

Spider-Man 2 is an absolute delight of a game. It’s a wonderful and unique experience with one of the best superhero stories in a game I’ve played. Insomniac have earned trust, they have mine for the experiences they have provided me but I just wish they told us.

It hasn’t looked great when there’s been very little content drop for the game either, only a few suits that were (in my opinion) lackluster.

As I mentioned, I hope I’m concerned for nothing and they drop a Venom trailer at some point considering the roadmap did point to 2025 for it. We’ll see though. I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll get Venom in 2025, I believe Fall 2026 at the earliest.
