Why Stargirl’s Season 2 Has Surprised Me…Again

Rewind to 2019 where Stargirl was officially announced as a season and I couldn’t have been less excited about a show if I tried. I was under the assumption that the show would be done poorly and there’s no way it could even be good.

How I was wrong.

The DC Universe absolutely nailed season 1, it was perfect, an unexpected masterpiece that fired on all cylinders to make it as interesting and entertaining as humanly possible.

Then, we all know how that dumpster fire of a “streaming platform” ended. This resulted in The CW taking control over the show, and again, well, we all know how 50/50 The CW is.

My excitement dwindled for season 2. To be honest, I kind of forgot about it after the news. Trailers were dropping which included a Green Lantern and it still didn’t do anything for me.

The first episode dropped, I watched, and again I was surprised. The showrunners never let their foot off the gas pedal at all.

What’s made the show even more special is the fact they have implemented this horror-type thriller aspect to the show and it works wonders. The young little boy playing Eclipso is a fantastic actor who further instills these aspects into the show.

To be fair to Stargirl, it did have dark moments throughout season 1. Especially when Joey was brutally murdered, but this season has taken this to a whole new level and I’m glad it has. It needs it.

We have shows that have gone from a serious aspect to a stupid element *cough Legends cough*… sorry just need to clear my throat. We’ve never had a show that’s gone from somewhat serious with a silly element to uber terrifying in just a season.

Don’t get me wrong, season 1 isn’t perfect and it does have many flaws that need to be addressed as we move into the final end of the season, but in a general overall perspective, it’s been damn great.

Eclipso works very well as the main villain with this as well. Not to mention the showrunners have actually stuck with one villain throughout so Eclipso can make the impact he needs to make. Such as literally getting in the minds of everyone around Courtney and destroying them mentally. It’s brutal.

The Green Lantern in Jenny has so far been trash but I do have to give balls to the showrunners for actually giving us a Green Lantern. This is the first time we have seen a Lantern in live-action since Ryan Reynolds’s portrayal back in 2011.

And this is where I end it with, the risks the shows took are paying off. They bring an element into the show but they do it so damn well. If The CW took this much care with others shows the same way they do with this and Superman and Lois, The CW would be a force to be reckoned with on the TV spotlight, instead of being a joke.

Either way, I don’t think I’m going to sleep on the show again. I can’t, it just blows me away constantly.
