Over the course of three seasons of The Mandalorian, we’ve always had teases and tidbits for Grogu, how he survived and how he managed to escape the Jedi Temple while the dreaded Order 66 was enacted. Well, in the last episode, we indeed saw who saved Grogu and why the overall scene was important in both the show and real life.
Why the scene was important in the show
For many reasons, the scene and entire flashbacks for grogu are important, one of the major reasons the scene was important was that we finally got to see who protected and saved Grogu from arguably a fate worse than death.
A group of 4 Jedi Masters was protecting Grogu, could this mean we are truly just seeing how important Grogu was to the Jedi? The theory is that Grogu was more important and that’s why we saw 4 Jedi protecting him. This could simply be the case of Jedi Masters protecting the younglings.
Honestly, if the flashbacks continue and we do eventually get to see why Grogu was important, I’m all for it, could he be Yoda’s son? Relative, or just another one of his species?
Why the scene was important in real life
Now, why was this scene so important in real life? Well, the actor who portrayed the Jedi Master Kelleran Beq who saved Grogu was played by Ahmed Best, why is this name important? Well, for one, he has played another Star Wars character, Jar Jar Binks.
This scene was so important because Ahmed Best, after the reaction he received to his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks caused him to receive so much hate and bullying directed at him and not the character that he contemplated suicide.
I love the fact that over the last few years, Ahmed Best was brought back to the Star Wars universe as a Jedi Master on a Star Wars Jedi Challenge where Padawan (kids) would compete to become a Jedi and Ahmed Best was brought in as the “Jedi Master”.
They could have left it at that, Ahmed was well-loved when this was announced, and I saw people so excited for him.
Over the last three seasons, many fans have theorized who could have saved Grogu, who was there, was it Mace Windu? Anakin Skywalker comes to kill him, or allow Grogu to leave? Was it Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
People were blown away when the elevator door opened up and Ahmed Best appeared. Not only that but from that episode, he survived the events of Order 66 and saved Grogu. It was literally a beautiful moment.
It came full circle. People loved it, I’ve watched reactions to the scene on YouTube and people are literally crying over it.
I do not think there will be a better appearance in Star Wars for a long time.
Kelleran Beq in that scene alone was so badass, powerful, and impactful that I believe he’s fully become a lot of people’s favorite Jedi or has entered the list of their favorite Jedi.
Ahmed Best fully deserves this and more.
