Over the course of many years, the debate of the perfect Superman has always been a conversation, and often times that conversation ends up not being a nice one as fans seemingly turn on each other for their opinions and thoughts.
Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion so when it comes to the conversation of who is the perfect Superman, many of times fans often throw out the names Christopher Reeves or Henry Cavill. While they are decent portrayals of the character, in my opinion, previous incarnations of the character either be the best version of Superman and neglect the Clark character or vice versa.
So for me when it comes to the conversation of the perfect Superman, I look at Clark Kent and Superman as two different characters. For me, an actor needs to nail both sides of a character when playing a dual identity.
Henry Cavill was a fantastic Superman but I couldn’t connect with his Clark and it was a similar situation with Christopher Reeves. Tom Welling somewhat nailed an early version of the dual identity but ultimately we never got to witness the true “Superman” within the Smallville series.
When it comes to Tyler Hoechlin, he’s often overlooked and overshadowed by Henry Cavill and the Superman movies. Since debuting in the Supergirl series, he’s had a somewhat big role within the CW DC TV universe. Ultimately getting his own series.
I’ve never seen an actor portray a dual identity as well as Tyler. He’s a fantastic Clark Kent and an even better Superman. I have said this since day 1 of his debut in the Supergirl series that he is the best incarnation of the character.
Tyler’s performances of the character have been superb. The final season of Superman & Lois has proved this. He’ll ultimately be my favorite Superman. While this new Superman we’re getting within the DCU from James Gunn has yet to be seen in any footage, I can not speak on how David Corenswet will portray the dual identity.
For now, Tyler Hoechlin is the very best of the best of Superman. He is my favorite Superman and Clark to date. That has been a hard feat to accomplish since I am a huge Smallville fan.
