Will Marvel Follow This Storyline For Doom?

Over the past couple of weeks, Marvel dropped the news that Robert Downey Jr will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a different role. He’ll be portraying the villain “Doctor Doom”.

So the main question I have personally about the casting is what story will they follow or will they create one for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

One of the bigger stories is the “What if…?” Story about a young Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom in College as roommates. Both are very smart and both sort of bounce off each other as “who is the smarter one”. Both of them have different origins, Doom has put in effort to get where he is while Tony is a Stark.

Essentially, the story goes as follows “Doom tricks Tony into helping him with an illegal experiment on college grounds and essentially uses Tony as bait and they swap minds, Doom goes into Tony’s body while Tony goes into Doom’s body and gets exiled into Latveria.”

The two spend years as each other, but Doom (Tony) becomes honorable while Tony (Doom) becomes a cold-hearted person. When they eventually meet and fight, Doom offers to switch back with Tony but Tony refuses as stays in Doom’s body.

So with Robert returning as Doom, we would need a flashback to see why Tony turned into Doctor Doom because if it’s just “Tony’s back, he’s Doom” then it will be slightly underwhelming. we need that flashback scene to explain the reason.

This can only be the logical choice of story for me personally. I hope they do this casting justice. If they are making Doom the next big bad then they need a badass story to go along with the casting. Plus we need to see Doom make an impact, we need to see Spider-Man, Strange, Captain Marvel, and all these early MCU phase characters be absolutely shocked by the reveal.
